Frequently Asked Questions

If you don't find the answer to your question, please go to the Contacts Page and get in touch with the appropriate person.

What is the Sea Dragons Swim Club?
Sea Dragons is a nonprofit organization sanctioned under the national direction of USA Swimming. We participate in the Genesee Valley Swim League (GVSL) and the Niagara District of USA Swimming. Our purpose is to further interest and education in competitive aquatic sports under the direction of an experienced coaching staff, and with active parent participation.

When can I register?
Registration for the full year program is typically in September. However, we offer 2 week trials year round for free.

Is there a trial membership?
Yes! We encourage swimmers to try our club to see if this is the right “fit” for them. To sign up for a free trial, follow the registeration link.

What type of suit do I need to wear for practice?
Any suit can be worn for practice. Girls typically wear one-piece suits, and boys like to wear the longer suits called jammers. Please do not wear your competition suit to practice because it will wear out prematurely. A competition (team) suit is required for all swim meets.  We require a special meet suit that is purchased only through our team store link.

Can practice be observed?
Yes, practice can be observed at any time.

Do we have practice if school has been cancelled?
It is district policy that all school functions and activities are cancelled if school has been officially cancelled.

How should I communicate with the coaches?
You can communicate with any Coach at any time; they are always available to answer any questions or concerns you may have. However, the most effective means to communicate with any coach is through e-mail. This enables our coaches to fully concentrate on either the swimmer at poolside or the parent and the question.

Where are swim meets held?
Meets are usually held at swimming venues in the greater Rochester area. Occasionally, some District and elite level competitions are held throughout Western New York. The meet packet for each meet can be found on our Events page (after you log in as a member) and contains that specific information.

What is expected of parents?
As in everything, the most important role of our parents is to be a good role model for all of our swimmers. We believe this means making sure swimmers are at the required practices and meets on time and ready to participate. We do have a volunteer requirement of 24 hours for the year. This can be done by any member of your family or friends. If you do not meet the requirement, there is a charge. See the handbook for more informaiton.

How do I become an official?
Please use the contact us page.

How can I help?
Any parent can help. Except for our Coaches, the Sea Dragons Swim Club is run solely on a volunteer basis. We always look to parents for help with running meets, concession sales, social events, officiating and Board positions.
