What To Take To The Meet
1. Most important: Swim suit, cap, and goggles
2. Towels – Swimmers will be there awhile so you may want to pack 2
3. Something to sit on. Lawn chairs for adults as many pools don’t have much seating. Kids may want to bring an extra towel or blanket to sit on
4. T-shirt or sweatshirt, depending on the weather
5. Shoes / flip flops
6. Water, Gatorade, snacks
7. Small games, cards, toys, anything to pass the time
8. Pen / sharpie – some kids like to write their events on their hand
General Meet Info
1. There are 4 strokes in swimming: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. There is the IM (Individual Medley) in which you swim all four strokes during the race and there are a few relays throughout the meet as well.
2. For each event, swimmers are grouped by their age:
· 8 and under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15 and over
3. The length of the pool is 25 meters or yards (depending on the pool). So if your child is swimming a 25, they swim one length of the pool. A 50 would be 2 lengths (down and back), and so on for 100’s, 200’s, etc.
4. Most 8 and under events are 25 yards. If your child is questionable about making it across the pool but still wants to swim in the meet, one of their coaches (the High School swimmers) will swim alongside of them and be there to help out if needed.
5. During the meet, you are welcome to find your child and talk in between their races but we do encourage the swimmers to stay somewhat close to our team camp so their coaches can find them and get them to the starting block on time for their events.
6. If you cannot see the pool well from your seat, feel free to move closer when you child is swimming and then return to your seat when they are done so other parents can rotate in.
7. You can find your swimmers official time on our NAC website under results. If your child plans to swim in more meets, you may want to consider the “Meet Mobile” app. It is a yearly subscription of around $10 but all of the swim meets link up to it so you can find your swimmers meets, events, heats, times and places throughout the year.
*** Although we encourage all swimmers to compete in the meets, we understand that some are more hesitant to compete. Maybe you would like to bring your swimmer to the first home meet just to watch. Then they can see how a meet is run and be there to cheer on their friends.
***As always, if there are ANY questions, please don’t hesitate to ask a coach or an experienced parent! We are always happy to help grow the sport of swimming!
