Dinsmore, Witt advance to finals at Puerto Rico Grand Prix

David Dinsmore (New Albany, Ohio) and Madison Witt (La Canada, Calif.) made their senior international debut Thursday by advancing to the 10-meter and 3-meter finals respectively at the FINA Grand Prix in Puerto Rico.

Dinsmore, who won a bronze medal on platform at the 2012 FINA Junior World Championships, placed third in the preliminaries and then scored 383.50 for third place in his semifinal to earn one of six spots in Saturday’s finals.

Christo Law (San Antonio, Texas) finished fourth with 351.55 in the same semifinal as Dinsmore, missing a berth in the finals by one spot as the top three from each semi advance. It was Law’s first senior international competition as well. China’s Huo Liang, who won Olympic gold in synchronized diving in 2008, was the top qualifier out of either semi with 525.75 points.

After placing fourth in the women’s 3-meter preliminaries, Witt came through with 282.95 points for third in her semifinal to advance to the finals. Estee Pryor (New Albany, Ohio) finished ninth overall after placing fifth with 279.15 points in the other women’s 3-meter semifinal. Inge Jansen of the Netherlands was the top overall qualifier with 303.40 points.

The Puerto Rico Grand Prix competition continues through Sunday. On the schedule for Friday are preliminaries and semifinals for men’s 3-meter and women’s 10-meter.
