OSDC crowned overall team champs at USA Diving Jr. Nationals 3rd year in a row

Led by a gold medal sweep by Noah Duperre (New Albany), the Ohio State Diving Club was crowned overall team champions at the USA Diving Junior National Championships for the third year in a row. The 2014 competition was held August 4-9 in Knoxville, Tenn.
The 12-year-old Duperre won every event in the boys’ 12-13 age group, taking gold on 1-meter, 3-meter and platform.
Three other members of the Ohio State Dive Club also won gold. Cameron Thatcher (Powell) paired with Duke Diving’s Jordan Windle for gold in 14-18 boys’ synchronized 3-meter, while Estee Pryor (New Albany) won gold in 14-18 girls’ synchronized 3-meter with North Carolina Diving’s Elisabeth Dawson. Rachel Rubadue (Columbus) competed with Olivia Rosendahl of theTrojan Dive Club and won gold in 14-18 girls’ synchronized platform.
In all, divers from the Ohio State Diving club won six gold, one silver and seven bronze medals during the six-day championships.
In addition to her 3-meter synchro gold, Pryor won bronze on 1-meter in the 16-18 age group and was eighth on platform and 10th on 3-meter. She also won bronze competing in 14-18 synchronized platform with teammate Nikki Watters (New Albany). Watters also won medals in all three individual events in the 14-15 girls’ age group, winning silver on 3-meter and bronze on 1-meter and platform.
Thatcher also won bronze in 16-18 boys’ 3-meter and took 11th on 1-meter. He paired with teammate David Dinsmore (New Albany) for bronze in 14-18 synchronized platform. Individually, Dinsmore won bronze on platform in the 16-18 age group.
Rubadue advanced to two individual finals, placing fourth on platform and eighth on 3-meter in the 16-18 age group, while Ayla Bonniwell (Ithaca, N.Y.) placed 11th in girls’ 16-18 platform.
In 14-15 boys’ competition, Brad Weimer (Columbus, Ohio) advanced to the platform finals and placed eight. Kelan Huffman (Powell, Ohio) advanced to the finals in all three events in the 11-and-under boys’ competition. He was fourth on 1-meter, fifth on 3-meter and ninth on platform.
