Ohio State Diving Club Qualifies 3 for the 2014 Junior World Championships

 

Three members of the Ohio State Diving Club have qualified for the 2014 Junior World Championships next month in Russia. 

Cameron Thatcher of Powell (Olentangy Liberty High School) qualified for the Junior World Championships in the 14-18 Boys 3m synchronized competition and New Albany’s Nikki Watters (New Albany High School) qualified for both the 14-15 Girls 1m and 3m competition. Both will represent Team USA at the World Championships in Penza, Russia.

Each qualified at the recent 2014 USA Diving Junior National Championships at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where the Ohio State Diving Club (OSDC) won the overall team championship. The club is ranking the number one age group diving program in the country.

OSDC head coach John Appleman was selected as a Team USA coach for the Junior World Championships.

Another Ohio State Diving Club member, Georgi Milne of New Albany (New Albany High School,) participated in the South African junior nationals in May. She qualified for the Junior World Championships in both the 14-15 Girls 1m and 3m competition representing South Africa.

Appleman, Milne, Thatcher and Watters will be headed to Penza, Russia for the Junior World Championships September 3-16, 2014.

In other results from the Junior National championship, OSDC members took 6 individual national titles. Noah Duperre of New Albany (New Albany Middle School) swept the 12-13 Boys events with 1st place finishes in the 1m, 3m and platform events. Rachel Rubadue of Worthington (Worthington Kilbourne High School) won the 14-18 Girls Synchronized Platform event, New Albany’s Estee Pryor (New Albany High School) won the 14-18 Girls Synchronized 3m event and Cameron Thatcher won the 14-18 Boys Synchronized 3m event.

Rubadue was selected to attend the Pan Am Festival in Mexico City September 23-October 1, 2014. She qualified through Senior Nationals and will be diving Synchronized and Individual Platform at the Festival.

The Ohio State Diving Club is a USA Diving, year round competitive team and part of the Buckeye Aquatic Academy in the Office of Student Life’s Department of Recreational Sports at Ohio State.
