SUMMER LEAGUE REQUIRMENTS:

Swimmers that are looking to join our summer league team are expected to understand basic swim strokes and technique. Younger swimmers (10 and under) should be able to swim a length of each stroke (Free, Back, Breast, Fly). Swimmers 11+ should at least be able to swim a lap (down and back) of each stroke. We understand that for many summer swimmers this is their first time looking to join a swim team. We do not expect their form or technique to be perfect, and this is what our coaches will work with athletes on throughout the summer league season.

The easiest way to tell if your swimmer is ready for summer league is to set up an evaluation with Coach Tahyani. Email her at [email protected] to set up an evaluation time.

IF YOU ALREADY SWIM FOR THE TIGER SHARKS CLUB PROGRAM - ONLY BLUE SHARKS ARE ABLE TO SWIM SUMMER LEAGUE. If you wish to swim summer league instead of club during summer, or have questions please contact coach Tahyani @ [email protected]

PRACTICE TIMES:

We will have practice Monday – Thursday twice a day. The morning practices will be 8:00 – 9:00 am. Evening practices will be 6:00 – 7:30 pm. Swimmers may come to as many practices as they are able to attend. Swimmers are not required to attend every practice to swim in meets, but regular attendance is strongly encouraged to have them prepared as much as they can be.

Summer league will have dry land training during evening practices on Tuesday and Thursdays. Please be sure to bring tennis shoes and a water bottle!

Practice Cancellation- If we are forced to cancel practice due to the weather conditions, or any other reason, we will make that decision AT LEAST 30 minutes prior to your scheduled practice time. We will notify via Remind, Facebook, and send an email through active. If no communication has been sent out, we will continue with practice as normally scheduled.

WHAT TO BRING TO PRACTICE:

Swimmers are expected to have a swimsuit, cap, goggles, water bottle, and tennis shoes at each practice. At swim meets, ALL swimmers are required to have a team suit and team swim cap.

TEAM SUITS & SWIM CAPS:

We have try on suits available at the front desk of The OC if you want to make sure and get the right size. Try on suits will also be brought to each parent meeting and have coaches available to help you find the correct size for your swimmer(s). On our women’s/girls suits, there are two separate styles available. The suits we have to try on are the "tech back" style, and cover a little less than the other "drop back" style. They should fit very similar size wise, but you may choose whichever style you and your swimmer are more comfortable with.

MEETS:

We are a part of the Southwest Missouri swimming league, consisting of local public and private pools from around the Springfield area. Every team will host one or two meets. We encourage all swimmers to attend home and away meets as it is a great measuring tool to assess a swimmers race progression. They are also the fun part where all of the kids get to hang out and have fun!

We will have 4 smaller meets and a Championship meet. Two of the smaller meets will be in Ozark at the outdoor pool that we practice at. We encourage all swimmers to attend the meets. If you will not be able to make a swim meet, please email Coach Tahyani at [email protected].

MEET REGISTRATION:

All meet registration fees are included in the fees that you paid at the start of summer. Swimmers will be registered for every meet automatically by your coaches. Please, if you will not be able to make it, send coach Tahyani @ [email protected] an email so that your swimmer is not being counted on for a relay race with other swimmers.

A list of swimmers and their events, as well as warm up times, will be sent out no later than the day before the meet so parents can know what to expect. It is up to the coaches to decide what events the swimmer will participate in. We will never enter a swimmer in an event that we do not feel they can complete, and will always attempt to have every swimmer in as many events as possible.

HOME MEET:

We staff mostly with parent volunteers. Instructions to volunteer will be sent out via email well prior to the event. We attempt to have multiple individuals staffed at each position in an attempt to make sure you can see your child’s events. It is very important that we have plenty of volunteers otherwise we cannot run our home meets. We ask that at least one individual over the age of 16 from each participating family volunteer to work a home meet.

Please respect the hosting team’s guidelines on seating arrangements. Parents should stay out of the bull pen and timing areas unless they are volunteering with pre-approved training. Encourage your swimmers to be respectful and supportive of any other teammates and other teams they may be swimming against. We do not condone bad sportsmanship.

END OF SUMMER LEAGUE PARTY: Monday July 15th from 6:15-8:15pm
