2023 Summer Season Championships Recap

Feng Chen

With the new season going well, we want to acknowledge our CDST top performers at the end of summer champion meets!

During our first week of summer break, three age group swimmers representing Pacific Swimming competed at the Western Zone Age Group Championships at Boise, ID. CDST swimmers Dhivashree Kesavan, Sophia Gallagher, and Andy Bi captured many points at their races and helped the Pacific Swimming(LSC) All-Star Team win the meet. Also, a huge congratulations to Dhivashree Kesavan for her 50 M Backstroke, ranked No.1 in the USA of the 10 & U age group in the 2023 long course season. What an accomplishment!

On the same weekend, our Cal-Berkeley committed swimmer, Edward Huang, raced his first Junior National Championships at Irvine, CA(He missed last year's due to COVID). At his best event, 100 M Backstroke, he got 55.99 and advanced to the championship finals(top 8). He finished the final in 7th place. He just missed the Olympic Trials Cut by 0.3, which will be his next goal to get it in upcoming long course meets.

Our 15-18 boys(Edward Huang, Ryin Ruaboro, Justin Ely, Leo Gao, Eric Meng) posted very competitive times at relays at the local summer championships meet, Far Western Championships. They got 3rd place in the 200 M Free Relay and 2nd in the Medley Relay. Our 10 & Un Boys Relays(Andy Bi, Kumar Gautham, Justin Huang, Maximus Wang) got 4th in both Free and Medley. CDST placed 15th overall in the team scores. There were a total of 100+ teams at this traditional summer-end age group championships meet.
