2022 Fall Newsletter

Anna Gainey-Vejar

Hello CDST Families,

The last three-months have been an excellent start to the 2022-2023 Swim Season.  For CDST, September, October, & November showed our Team’s tremendous ability to grow, organize, & prepare for the year ahead.  In September, all groups spent time focusing on stroke technique, & practice endurance.  We also had many new parent groups that were created to help the team run more efficiently.  Shoutout to all the Parents who have assisted our Membership process by answering registration questions for new members, helping organizations, & other communications.

October was a month of competing again, learning, adjusting, & celebrating.  Coaches had an opportunity to watch Swimmers race at the OAPB C/B/BB Swim Meet, & were able to address some DQ issues afterwards.  Luckily, adjustments in practice resulted in better practice habits, technique, & muscle memory.  We had our CDST picture day & welcome breakfast which allowed for some team bonding early in the Season.  CDST also celebrated the 2021-2022 Swim Season at our 12th Annual Swim Banquet. A special thank you to the Parent Committee for helping to organize both of these fun team events.

November was a month of expansion, & applying what we’ve learned in the past few-months to our practices & meet events.  This Fall wee also had some fun Team bonding Dryland Practices in the form of Hiking & Biking, which showed our different athletic skills. There were three-swim meets that allowed for Swimmers to find where there was room for improvements in their individual races.  We also incorporated relay techniques at practice in order to prepare for the important December Championship Swim Meets.  Overall, it was a month of incorporating healthy habits and gratitude.

CDST has also added Parent Leaders for each Swim Group as an additional communication channel between Coaches & their specific Group’s Parents.  This is another wonderful Parent Group that will help to make things run smoothly, & will allow for our Coaches to stay organized & focused on swim practices. Thank you to these Parents for taking on this important team role.  These Group Parents can help to relay Parent questions to Coaches, assist new member questions, assist with group orders & distributions, help send group notifications, help with team events, contact unpaid families, etc.  Please look for an email from them soon.

We’ve added a new recognition to our Team's hardest workers with a NEW Swimmer of the Month shoutout that will occur Monthly.  This recognition can be for an individual Swimmer who has worked extra hard at practice, at meets, at good attendance, or for any other awesome reason for standing out to Coaches as Monthly Role Models & Leaders to our Groups & CDST Team as a whole.  All Swimmers should continue to strive to be their best at practice and as individual competitive swimmers.

Below are the November Swimmers of the Month:

  • Silver 1:  Ella Zu

To conclude, CDST is looking forward to our annual Christmas Party this Month.  Please look for a Monthly CDST Newsletter with Team updates & other news starting in December.  Finally, a few practice reminders for swimmers: please continue to do your part at Ohlone & shower before practice in the locker rooms; all swimmers should keep their belongings on deck within sight; never leave swim bags in the locker rooms unattended, & never bring expensive items to practice.  Overall, CDST is doing a great job.  Keep it up Team!  Go CDST!!
