2024 Long Course Far Western Championship

Ian Huskins

Hello Parents and Swimmers,

What an incredible experience it was to witness so many passionate races! Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to the sport of swimming. Your contributions are the reason CDST continues to progress and achieve new time standards at each meet.

The California Dolphin Swim Team had 20 qualifiers who participated in the 2024 Long Course Far Westerns in Morgan Hill, California, from July 25-28. CDST entered 93 events, and our amazing and resilient athletes achieved 21 AAAA, 22 AAA, 29 AA, 17 A, and 1 BB time standards. We also witnessed history in the making as Chengyong Wu broke a long-standing Far Western meet record in the Boys 13-14 50 Free with an outstanding time of 24.37. Please be sure to congratulate him the next time you see him.

I would also like to give a special shout-out to all the relay-only swimmers. Thank you for participating and helping to complete our team.

The energy and emotion on the pool deck were truly amazing. We displayed our passion, our challenges, but most importantly, our resilience and drive to be the best competitors we can be. The support shown to teammates and even adversaries was unmatched. I am so proud to lead a group of young, vibrant athletes who are humble and exemplary in sportsmanship.

Our team’s focus, grit, and consistency in reaching new heights were visible. The crowd could feel your power and see CDST’s pride. Remember, we all have the opportunity to achieve greatness, but we must be willing to make the sacrifices necessary to reach our goals. As athletes, we need to give our all. The pain of a tough swim set or a hard week is nothing compared to the regret of wondering “what if.”

The next season is around the corner, and I know the California Dolphin Swim Team is ready for the challenge. We embrace the process, don’t shy away from hard work, and take pride in what we do. Thank you to all the student-athletes for your continued efforts. We can’t wait to see your progress.

Have a wonderful break,

Coach Ian
