Coaches
Dave Leonard is in his tenth year as the Head Coach at Pro Club’s Pro Swimming swim team. In that time the program has evolved into a nationally-recognized swimming power. Since his arrival, the team has had its second Olympic Trials Qualifier; four US Open swimmers; two Summer Junior Nationals swimmers, including its first Finalist; twenty Futures qualifiers; and seventy different Sectionals Qualifiers. Our swimmers have set a total of 120 out of 128 different individual Short Course Club Records, and 37 out of 38 relay records during his tenure.
Dave is originally from South Burlington, Vermont, though his work in swimming has taken him all over the country. Before a short stint at Wave Aquatics, Dave had been CEO and Head Coach at the Emmaus Aquatic Club and Emmaus High School Swim Teams. While there, his Senior group had six swimmers qualified for Nationals in 7 events, earned 14 high school All American Awards, and won the Pennsylvania Girls State Championship (for large schools). Before Emmaus, he was the Head Coach and Program Director of the Glens Falls YMCA Gators, a storied program with a 50-year history in New York State. While there, Dave’s swimmers set 11 new club records, had their highest Men’s finish at the Spring YMCA National Championships and their second highest Combined Team’s finish at the Summer Long Course YMCA Nationals Championships in team history.
From 1999 to 2006 he was the Head Coach at the Bellevue Eastside Swim Team. While there, the team doubled in size, added space at two other pools, established the team’s first website, broke 72 Club Records, and hosted the YMCA Regional Championships twice at the King County Aquatic Center. Dave was also the head coach for Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving at St. Michael's College (NCAA Division II) from 1991-1998. While at St. Michael's, he earned the distinction of winning more meets and placing his teams higher at their New England Collegiate Championships than any other previous coach at the time. In individual performances, his swimmers broke 35 different school records, averaging 12 new records per year over his seven-year tenure.
As a swimmer himself, Dave started swimming at the Lake Champlain Swim Club in Vermont, and swam for DeAnza Cupertino Aquatics and Ladera Oaks Swim Club in California. In high school, he set four school records and was Team Captain for two years at Kimball Union Academy in New Hampshire. In College, he swam for St. Lawrence University in upstate New York while earning his bachelors in English with a minor in philosophy on a full Army ROTC scholarship. Dave loves writing, kayaking, road-biking, and hiking with his wife Jessica.

Alexa has been working at PRO since November 2015 and has been working in aquatics for 9 years. She is passionate about competitive swimming and helping young swimmers improve.
“I love swimming. I love that, as a sport, it gives individual athletes the ability to focus on their own improvement but at the same time, it is an undeniably team oriented sport. Every single swimmer is part of the team. As a swimmer, especially as a club swimmer, I didn’t really appreciate this. There were times at meets that I didn’t really think that it mattered to the success of the team if I was there or not because there were so many swimmers that were older, and faster than me. But as a coach, I have come to see how wrong I was. How just one or two swimmers that aren’t necessarily the fastest can be the difference in being able to have one more relay, or one more person in an event which can make or break a swim meet. I absolutely love that dynamic. As a coach, I hope to make every single swimmer that I work with feel like they matter and feel like their success is important to me.”

Teresa’s competitive coaching career spans over a decade
working on-deck, and almost 20 years since starting her career
in aquatics as a swim instructor. After graduating from Washington
State University, she returned to her childhood swim team, Issaquah
Swim Team, to become a coach. She grew as part of the program,
eventually working to serve as the team's Assistant Head
Coach and Operations Administrator. In her tenure with IST, Teresa
coached all levels of athletes, from first-time participants
to nationally ranked age group swimmers. With a proven track record
of success, her athletes have placed first at championship meets
ranging from PNS Champs to Age Group Zones. The team record board
is full of swimmers Teresa spent years coaching. During her time in
team leadership, IST returned to regularly placing in the top-5 at
PNS Champs meets.
Following a break from coaching in order to have her second child,
Teresa spent a brief time as a substitute coach for BCST and as the
Head Swim Coach for the Overlake Otters, a Midlakes team in Medina.
She is excited for this new chapter in her USA Swimming coaching
career with PRO Swimming!

Zach is from the Seattle area and started swimming at the age of 3 years. At the age of 9 years, he started swimming competitively on the Pro Club Swim Team. During his time swimming at the Senior level, he had the opportunity to swim under four different coaches with vastly differing coaching styles. Due to the exposure to the different methods over many years, he learned significantly about swimming technique, training styles, and philosophies on the sport. Swimming with PRO also helped him to swim at many championship swim meets in the Pacific Northwest region including the Speedo Championship Series meets, PNS Championship meets, as well as 4A State with Woodinville High School.
Zach has been a swim instructor since 2012 and a coach on the Pro Club Swim Team since 2015. Zach loves seeing swimmers reach their goals and develop in swimming and he hopes to use his skills to help his students not only improve as swimmers but also learn life lessons through the sport.
