West Weekly
Happy Thursday all WESTies.
We are already 7 weeks into our season and getting into the thick of our training. Over the next 6 weeks or so, We are going to be in the most intensive phase of our training cycle. As we continue to push the intensity, please keep in mind a few things for your swimmers:
Managing Time: Make sure they are getting their homework done during any spare time so they aren't getting up too early or staying up late to do it. Staying on a standard sleep/eat/train cycle is the best way for the body to adapt to tough training.
EAT EAT EAT!: Oversee your kids nutrition as much as possible. Start the day with breakfast (even before morning practice) and make sure they have something to eat between school and practice and something to eat right after each practice. On top of that, they need 3 solid meals a day with lots of lean proteins (to rebuild muscle), complex carbs (as fuel for training), and fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables. If breakfast is a problem, maybe think about making some breakfast smoothies each morning to give them on the way to practice. All you need is some yogurt, fruit, and really whatver else you want to throw in there.
In other WEST news...
Congratulations to Ashley Sawyer for winning the T-shirt contest!:
After much deliberation with staff, especially with so many great designs, Ashley Sawyer's "Scientists of Speed" shirt is the winning design. We will be getting the shirts made shortly.
Saturday Pentathlon Success:
Last Saturday's Pentathlon practice was very indicative of the early season form we're in. As a whole, we felt that both technically and fitness-wise, we have made some huge strides in a short amount of time. We saw some great racing and it was a positive experience for all groups.
First Challenge meet next Saturday and Sunday, October 15-16 at Kamiak High School:
Posted on the website will be a list of entries. Please check entries to double check. If you are not entered, it is likely that your meet entry form was not in on time.
WEST yardsale wrap-up:
The yardsale proved to be a big hit. Thank you Thank YOU to all who helped out. All said and done, we raised over $2000.
Swimmers, keep up the focus and the hard work. It will pay off in a big way.
