WEST WEEKLY
Good afternoon WEST swimmers and parents.
It is another solid week at the pool. We are already in the midst of week 11, if you can believe it. For the challenge and accelerate groups, this will be the hardest week in our training cycle before Christmas, as we will already be starting to bring our training volume down in preparation for our December championship meets following this week.
In other news, we have sorted out our parent volunteer hour requirements. Please review this:
WEST 2011-2012 Swim Season Volunteer Requirement
WEST is a volunteer-run program and parent volunteering is critical to the overall financial health and operations of both the swim team and the facility. WEST relies on parents, family members, and significant others to not only be dedicated to their swimmer but to the team effort as well. WEST is only as strong as the members that make up and support our program. Volunteering at meets is an important way to show support for your swimmer and reinforce the countless hours of hard work and dedication that he/she displays on a daily basis.
WEST-hosted swim meets generate team revenue necessary to meet operating costs not covered by training fees. By requiring volunteer participation we ensure that our budgeted operational needs are met and our training fees are kept as low as possible.
All swim team members benefit from WEST-hosted meets and are expected to share in this responsibility. Upon registration, you are agreeing to work at each WEST-hosted meet, especially PNS Long Course Championships in July.
NOTE: Some variation in the overall volunteer requirement will be due to your swimmer's training group level. This number will also vary depending on the total number of registered WEST families. Families with multiple swimmers are counted at the highest training group level and therefore will be responsible to meet the volunteer and fundraising requirement for that group.
The breakdown will be as follows:
| Hours allocated to swim groups | |||
| Group: | Swimmers: | Hours/swimmer: | Total |
| Explore A/B | 31 | 26 | 806 |
| Discover | 26 | 28 | 728 |
| Challenge 1/2 | 30 | 32 | 960 |
| Accelerate | 9 | 35 | 315 |
| Total | 96 | 2809 |
Failure to Complete Fairshare Sessions Fee
Since WEST is a volunteer-run program, all families must contribute their fair share of volunteer sessions. Failure to complete fairshare sessions will result in a fee of $48.00 per missed session. This charge will be added to your account at the end of the season, and must be paid in full before your family will be allowed to re-register for the following season.
Requirement for All Families
This year, WEST will be hosting 3 meets. To have the meets run smoothly, we must have all families participating and helping. Below are this year's WEST-hosted meets (please make note of them now, as we will need everyone's assistance):
• November Age Group Invitational- November 18th - 20th; 755 volunteer hours available; 66 volunteers needed; PLEASE SIGN UP NOW THROUGH THE WEBSITE IF YOU HAVEN'T YET DONE SO!
• February Age Group Invitational- February 24th - 26th; 755 volunteer hours available; 66 volunteers needed.
• PNS Long Course Championships- July 26th - 29th; 1290 volunteer hours available; 232 volunteers needed.
Things have been running smoothly at the pool. We are pleased with the way practices have been running and have noticed the kids adapting to the hard training. Remember to give your body plenty of rest and good nutrition away from the pool, as we have had more than a few come down with fall flu/colds.
Have a great week! Go West!
Sam, Nick and Jordyn
