WEST weekly
Good afternoon WESTers,
Here we are in the middle of week 27! It seems spring is just around the corner, and it is that exciting time again where fast swimming will be occuring all through the country. As you know, the WEST hosted Age Group Invitational is this weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Please check the attached timeline.
With the meet this weekend, we do have an amended practice schedule. For those not swimming Friday, practice will be at the normal times. Saturday, there will be no practice for Challenge 1, 2 and Accelerate. However, There will be a normal practice scheduled for Discover and Explore for those swimmers not swimming in the meet. Any Challenge or Accelerate kids not swimming may come Saturday at 9:00 a.m. and get in and swim during Discover and Explore practice.
Next weekend, we have the Divisional Championships at KCAC. 13 and overs will swim a prelim/final meet both saturday and sunday. 10 and unders will do a 4-event session on saturday afternoon and 11-12s will do a 4-event session on sunday afternoon. For those who are close to regional time standards, this is the last meet to qualify. If you are not going to Age Group regionals at the end of March or the Speedo Sectional Championships, the Divisional Championship meet will be the last meet of the short course season! Entries are now posted. Here is a link to the meet information:http://www.pns.org/pnws2/__eventform__/203996_2012%20spring%20divisional.pdf
Also, with Spring right around the corner, there are already some of the earlier season Long Course meets opened for entries. Last year we only had a number of kids entered in the first long course meet and because there weren't a number of swimmers who achieved Long Course times, were subsequently left out of many of the other summer meets. In many ways, participating in the first Long Course meet is really important for the rest of the summer meets. The first Long Course meet is the Dick LaFave meet at KCAC April 27-29th. We have already done preliminary entries and they are now posted. We will have long course meet sheets available soon. If you do not want to attend the Dick LaFave meet, please let Nick or myself know by next Friday, March 2nd. Otherwise, your entries will be permanent and you will be billed.
Lastly, we are really excited to go to the Montana meet at the end of June. We realize that some kids may not be out of school yet, but we would like to get numbers together as quickly as possible so we can finalize total costs per kid and decide if we are going to take a van or busses, etc. Those from the Discover groups on up, please let us know ASAP if you would like to go.
Finally, 'tis the season to treat your body like a temple. If you plan on racing fast, recovering well, and feeling like a champion, pleaes put the right fuel in it. Attached is a great article from the USA swimming website:
