WEST Weekly

Nick Chevalier

Dear Swim Fans,

Well Spring is certainly here: getting lighter at night and finally some absolutely beautiful weather. Things are busy as always around WEST, here is the run-down.

Yardsale Success

Last weekend we held our annual spring yardsale. We raised close to $1000 through everyone's donations and bake sale efforts, great job everyone that participated! Again, it's thanks to everyone's hardwork and volunteering that makes WEST continue to strive.

REMINDER: Swim-a-Thon Donations Due!

Please get your Swim-a-Thon donations submitted as soon as possible (May 12 is e deadline). Remember, there is a minimum fundraising requirement that ALL SWIM TEAM families are responsible for and accounts will be billed as necessary on the 12th. Funds from the Swim-a-Thon make much needed repairs to the facility possible (such as the new pool liner, heaters in the locker rooms, etc.).

Interested in Becoming an Official? Meeting TOMORROW AT WEST

If more current/future S&T Officials don’t contact Bob Keller tonight/tomorrow, the Wednesday S&T Clinic at WEST will be cancelled (only 3 people have signed up). If you are planning on attending, please email Bob Keller ASAP. Becoming an official is a great way to get more involved with your kids swimming and be up-close to the action.

Parent Question Corner

Periodically we feature questions from parents to help educate everyone on the swimming world and how it works. If you have a question that you think others are also wondering, please submit it to [email protected].

Question: What’s an “over-the-top” start? Why do they do it?
An “over the top” start is when the swimmers from one heat stay in the water at the end of their race and get out only after the next heat has been sent. The swimmers who are in the water stay at the wall while the start of the next heat goes off. It does not impact the results of either heat. By doing this, a few seconds are saved between each heat which can add up to half an hour or more as the meet progresses, letting us all go home sooner.

Pac-Coast Meet

Entries have been submitted and finalized for the Pac-Coast Meet, you can check them on the website under the Swim Team tab.

Let's keep up the hard work. The kids have been doing great at practice, we need to make sure they are eating healthy and getting enough rest, especially as school gets busier before summer.
