WEST Weekly

Dear WEST Swimmers, Parents and Patrons,

Close to the middle of June already and things are busier than ever around WEST. We've got some time off from meets right now to focus mainly on training and the team has really been coming together.

Spring Clean Up - This Saturday!

It is that time of the year again where we ask you to give a couple hours of your time to help us with some yard work around the pool. We will be pruning the bushes in the parking lot and around the pool, weed the beds, clean gutters, and clean the moss around the parking lot. Sign up sheets are posted by the front door and viewing area at the pool.

Water Safety Day at WEST - June 23rd (FREE Guest Passes All Day!)

We are going to have the first annual WEST Water Safety Day to kick off the start of our summer lessons Extreme Week. We will have free lap and open swim all day and a couple Water Safety seminars throughout the day.

Run of the Mill - July 7th

The Run of the Mill is an annual 5k road race fundraiser that takes place in Mill Creek and WEST is a direct beneficiary of. Thanks to a donation from the proceeds of last year's run we were able to install safety switches to several electrical circuits in the building, helping to make safer environment for our staff. Check out their website for more information on the event: www.mcrunofthemill.org

WEST Grab Bag T-Shirt - $5 any shirt!

In a recent cleaning of the sheds, we stumbled across three bins of old WEST T-Shirts. We have an assortment of sizes and styles from years past. Stop by the office and pick up a shirt for only $5

Announcer Needed

Anyone interested in helping out at WEST hosted meets with announcing, please email [email protected] to set up training during the PNS LC Championships.

Private Lessons

We have time and space available on Friday and Saturdays following practice to schedule Private Lessons. As the kids get out of school, we have more time available in the middle of the day. If you are interested, please contact the coach you would like to do the lesson with.

Do You Wonder?

What is IES?  IES stands for Inland Empire Swimming, the local swimming committee (LSC), or governing body, for the swim teams of eastern Washington, Idaho and parts of eastern Oregon.   WEST belongs to PNS (Pacific Northwest Swimming) which is the LSC for western Washington from Olympia to Bellingham.

Colman Update

As of right now, the City of Seattle is planning on opening Colman pool July 1st. Our summer schedule will go into effect Monday, July 2nd and will include the following practice schedule at Colman:

Mondays 8-10am: Accelerate
Wednesdays 10am-12pm: Challenge & Accelerate
Saturdays: 8-10am: Accelerate

We are working on bus arrangements and will release more info soon. Just to clarify: Colman use is regulated by the Greater Seattle Swim Association and reserved for Senior Level swimming. Also, they are very strict about their "No Parents on Deck Policy".

August Meet Schedule

We have been contemplating which Championship meet to attend this August. Ken has been selected as Head Coach for the PNS Zone Travel Team and we would like to encourage swimmers to attend the Age Group Zone meet. This meet's dates conflict with the Senior Zone meet, however has historically always been more competitive. This  would also be an opportunity for our swimmers to represent the greater PNS and all swimmers that qualify can attend. Please check out the qualifying times located here: http://www.pns.org/pnws2/__eventform__/241392_2012%20AG% 20Western%20Zones.pdf and if your swimmer qualifies and you are interested, please contact us immediately so we can move forward with plans.

Thanks for your cooperation and continued support of WEST. Happy Swimming.

Nick, Ken, Rachel and Jordyn
