Changes to Washington State Reopening Guidelines

Nick Chevalier
Dear West Swim Team Families,

Governor Inslee recently updated his reopening guidelines for Aquatic Centers, defining the maximum number of swimmers per lane for swim teams to 2 swimmers. Additionally, there are updated the formulas for calculating maximum facility capacity.

Our maximum capacity has been reduced from 42 to 37 patrons, excluding staff. All our programs have been running well under this limit, so no changes are necessary to the number of people in the facility at one time. Regarding swim team practice, we are going to have to adjust how we structure practices so we never have more than 2 swimmers in a single lane. We want to avoid disrupting the schedule as best as possible, so are looking into options like dryland and learning stations on deck (wearing a mask and distanced) but some changes may be unavoidable. For the immediate time being, we are going to cycle kids through the water with a combination of simple, socially-distant dryland or discussions on deck. We will further announce our plan, along with any schedule changes, once it is developed over the next few days.

As a reminder, due to the facility capacity restrictions and to allow distancing during transition times, we are aiming to end all programs 2-5 minutes early. Please do not enter the facility more than 2-5 minutes before your scheduled time. All swim team and lessons swimmers please wait until space on deck is cleared and we invite you inside.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation through this challenging time. We are thankful to still be operating and grateful for the support of our community.
