Before registering for the team or being added to our waitlists, a member of our coaching staff must confirm each swimmer's ability during a tryout and recommend them for a specific training group. Tryouts are offered in Spring and Summer prior to the beginning of each season.

Tryouts for the 2025-2026 season will be held at Takoma Aquatic Center and Ballou Aquatic Center. Swimmers must be registered for tryouts in advance in order to be assessed by a member of the coaching staff.

Registration for tryouts opens May 1st, 2025 via the DC Wave Swim Team website. Tryouts for the DC Wave Swim Team are for Developmental and Age Group Levels ONLY. There is no cost to try out for the swim team.

• Advance registration is required to attend tryouts - no walk-in's.
• New team members looking to join the DC Wave Swim Team must attend at least one tryout session. Current team members do not need to attend tryouts.
• Tryout registration will open on May 1st at www.dcwaveswimteam.com.
• Swimmers will be assessed based on skill, not times or speed. Click here to see what skills swimmers will be evaluated on.

Register for one tryout session per swimmer. Should you need to change your tryout reservation date or time for any reason please email [email protected].

SWIM TEAM REGISTRATION LOTTERY

• The number of available spots in our training groups are limited and vary depending on current team members returning to the team and/or moving to an advanced training group or different location.
• Successful completion of tryouts and recommendation from a coach does not automatically guarantee your swimmer a spot on the team or at your preferred location. Swimmers recommended for the team from tryouts will be placed in a lottery for any open spots in their recommended group. 
• Swimmers selected from the lottery will be notified via email and will have 48 hours to register before the next swimmer on the waitlist is invited to register for that spot. Lottery results will be made available after all tryouts have been completed.
• Swimmers who do not receive a spot from the lottery will be placed on our waitlist. If a spot in your swimmers recommended training group becomes available, we will notify you via email and invite you to register at that time.
