I have been swimming for most of my life starting with swimming lessons at the age of 3 and then joining the Orcas at the age of 7 to swim competitively. I continued to swim with the Orcas until I was 18 years old, and then swam one season with the LASC before heading to university. I am now currently in my 3rd year at the University of Lethbridge majoring in Neuroscience and competing with the Pronghorns swim team. My main events are the 50 free, 100 free and 200 free, though I enjoy racing the odd 50 fly as well. This will be my first year as a swim coach, but I have many years’ experience teaching swimming lessons at my lifeguard job, as well as various volunteer coaching opportunities that I have done as a Pronghorn. My favourite memories as a swimmer are having fun with my teammates at swim meets every weekend; some of my greatest friendships to this day stemmed from bonding at swim meets. I also appreciated the competitive environment at swim meets that gave me the opportunity to showcase my skills. My goal for this season is to help my swimmers excel in their abilities and to gain confidence in their racing. I am really looking forward to a fun and fast season this year!
I am very excited to be coaching the Orcas. I have been swimming since I was 8 years old and I am currently swimming with the Pronghorns. I started out swimming with the summer club in Camrose. In this club I was able to build relationships with my teammates and coaches. My coaches made practices as fun as possible and with this, I was able to grow closer with my teammates as we would laugh over a joke our coaches would tell us. I find that this was very important because if the kids are having fun then they will continue to love the sport. I have 2 years of coaching experience and a few years of mentoring. I was able to see what makes a good coach and to help swimmers grow and become stronger swimmers. Watching them succeed is as much fun for me as it is for them. I am looking forward to being a good asset to the team and what the upcoming season holds.
I have been swimming since 2007 with the Orcas, and in 2020 after graduating took a hiatus to pursue volleyball at Brandon University in Manitoba where I have just finished my last year as a Bobcat. I have just finished my undergraduate degree in biology and plan to continue school next year at the University of Alberta. During my time in Brandon, I took it upon myself to begin coaching with the local club volleyball organization. Ever since then, I have loved every second of coaching. I am very excited to transition back into the pool and continue to enable athletes to become the best version of themselves all while having fun at the same time. I am looking forward to a great summer filled with best times, friendships and plenty of fun.
