What If We're Not Sure If Swim Club Is For Us?

Come try Rookie Week! It starts May 1st each year (unless it falls on a weekend) and continues through the first week of May.

It’s a risk free opportunity to make sure that swim club a good fit for your family.

What Is Rookie Week?

  • Any swimmer can try Dolphins Swim Club.
  • Swimmers meet the coaches and experience swim practice.
  • Coaches build team spirit and observe skills for training group placement.
  • Swimmers need to attend at least one swim session this week, but are invited to swim daily.

Do We Just Show Up On May 1st?

  • We encourage swimmers to register online before May 1st, even if the swimmer is not yet certain about joining swim club.
  • Once registered, fee payments can be deferred until the end of Rookie Week.
  • Early registration helps coaches and organizers to plan for Rookie Week and the season.

How Do I Know In What Group To Register?

  • Choose the group that sounds most appropriate for your swimmer (based on ability, not strictly by age)
  • Final group placements will be determined after assessment by coaches during Rookie Week.

What Are The Groups For Swim Training?

  • Mini - Introductory swim program; runs May to June on Mon/Wed, 4-5 pm
  • Junior - Mid level swim program; runs May to June on Tues/Thurs, 4-5 pm
  • Intermediate - Skills development group; runs May (M-F), June to Aug (M-Th) 5-6 pm
  • Senior - Advanced skills training; runs May (M-F) and Jun to Aug (M-Th), 4-6 pm

What If My Mini/Junior Swimmer Has A Schedule Conflict Or I Prefer Siblings Swim On The Same Day?

  • We are often able to adjust groupings for our Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs swimmers
  • Please make your scheduling request known to an executive member during Rookie Week

Are Swim Meets Mandatory?

  • Swim meets remain optional. Trying a few meets throughout each year teaches goal setting and keeps swimmers engaged in practices to progress physically and mentally.
  • We strongly encourage swimmers to try our home swim meet because it is extra fun!
  • At swim meets, swimmers spend time with friends, cheer, swim, learn from challenges, and celebrate successes!

How Does Swim Club Compare To Swim Lessons?

  • Dolphins Swim Club is a competitive swim team so the focus is on improving stroke techniques and achieving personal bests.
  • A season in swim club provides significantly more time in the water than a standard swimming lesson, which translates to increases in ability, endurance, and confidence.

Do I have to be competitive to join?

  • Some swimmers are “in it to win it” and enjoy the competitive side of swim club.
  • Some swimmers prefer swimming for fitness and celebrating team spirit.
  • We are excited to welcome swimmers of all abilities and motivations!
