HOLLOW ROCK – STONERIDGE (HRST)

2025 PARENT HANDBOOK

 

The HRST Piranhas summer swim team consists of two partner clubs: Hollow Rock and Stoneridge-Sedgefield. The HRST Piranhas are one of 8 teams that make up the Chapel Hill Summer Swim League. Ours is a volunteer organization dedicated to providing swimmers ages 5 to 18 with the chance to improve their swimming skills, have fun, participate with a multi-age team and compete in a friendly environment. These goals apply not only to swimmers but also to coaches and parents. Stroke technique is emphasized during practices.

 

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

 

• Members of Hollow Rock or Stoneridge-Sedgefield are eligible to join our team.
• All swimmers must be 18 or under as of June 1st, 2025.
• Children must be able to swim the full length of the lap pool unassisted to join the team. Registration fees for new swimmers will only be charged after the swim test is passed.
• Swim assessments will take place on May 19th- 4:30

New Parent Participation Policy
We are implementing a new Parent Participation Policy to help ensure our swim meets and team events run smoothly—because we truly love our swim team and want the best experience for everyone!

A signed acknowledgment form is now required from all parents/guardians to confirm understanding of this policy. Swimmers will not be eligible to participate in meets or events until the form is signed.

General Guidelines:

• Families with 1 swimmer are expected to volunteer at a minimum of 2 meets

• Families with 2 or more swimmers are expected to volunteer at a minimum of 3 meets

Please note: Parent reps may issue fines if participation requirements are not met.

IMPORTANT INFO

 

• Swimmers compete in meets by age group based on their age as of June 1st
• Age groups are divided as follows: 6 & under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18.
• All team members are eligible and encouraged to swim in the League-wide Championship Meet (CHAMPS) at the end of the 2025 season. Champs is currently scheduled for July 18th and 19th  We will provide additional information as it is available from the Chapel Hill Summer Swim League.
• The end of season celebration will take place on the Sunday after CHAMPS- July 20th

 

 

PRACTICES

 

We will offer practices M-Th from 4:30-5:30 and 5:30-6:30 pm.  We encourage swimmers who are 8 and younger to attend the 4:30 pm practice; and swimmers who are 9 and older to attend the 5:30 pm practice. On Friday, there will be a practice from 4:30-5:30 pm only for all swimmers with an emphasis on fun and games.

Starting the week of June 16th, we will offer a morning practice from 9-10 am for all swimmers.

You do not need to sign up to attend practice; simply have your swimmer show up to whichever practices they would like.  There is no minimum number of practices that a swimmer must attend.  Swimmers can come five days per week, or once per week, whatever feels right for them.

There will be no practices on: May 24th and May 27th in observance of Memorial Day Weekend

June 14th- in honor of graduations

July 4th and 5th- In observance of July 4th holiday

July 11th- NO morning practice

 

 

REGISTRATION AND FEES

 

We will be having online registration through our TeamUnify website, www.hrstpiranhas.org.  Registration will open April 14th and continue through May 31st.  All families must register online.

 

The 2025 season registration fees follow below. More than 80% of your registration fee goes directly to coaches’ salaries and the remainder covers CHSSL dues, Swimmingly (meet software) dues,  t-shirts, ribbons and meet supplies, and our online team management system.

 

 

 

 

Payment: The Summer Swim team has a separate account from the Hollow Rock Club. However, Hollow Rock Members will be able to charge their swim team registration to their member account. We will not be able to issue any refunds after May 31st.

 

TEAM SUITS

We will offer customized HRST Piranha swim gear for 2025. Visit https://www.swimoutlet.com/collections/hrstpiranhas to order HRST swimsuit, jammers, towels, and swim bag. Customization takes 10-15 days to arrive. Please note that the suit is optional and it’s fine for swimmers to wear their own suit if they prefer (navy blue preferred).

We will need approximately 50 volunteers for each home meet and 30 volunteers for away meets.

 

We will also need event coordinators for our FUN events throughout the swim team season-

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY

Pools may be closed at the discretion of the lifeguards if bad weather is in the area. Do not assume that rain always means cancellation; practice and meets may be held in light rain without thunder/lightning. Call the HR front desk at 919.489.1550 to find out if the pool is closed. We will use our TeamUnify program, Instagram and Band to provide updates about pool closures or practice cancellations in a timely manner.
