The Golden Marlins Swim Team runs on parent power. The Golden Marlins Swim Team Board consists of parent volunteers who work year round to keep the swim team going. However, the demand for volunteers is greatest in the summer season to organize and run swim meets.

Unlike other youth sports, swimming requires a large number of volunteers to run the team and host/attend meets. Whether it is timers, concessions, ribbons, heating, officials, set up, or tear down, there are a lot of jobs to go around.

It takes over 70 volunteer positions to run each home meet.  We are requiring that each family commit to signing up for a minimum of 3 volunteer spots this year.  Note, this is reduced from previous years, but we are asking for this commitment from all families, including Intro the Marlins families.  No swimmer is required to attend meets, but all swimmers, including Intro to Marlins swimmers are encouraged to attend at least 1 meet.  We also expect that all families check the signups for every social and meet that they attend to make sure that the needs are met.  Marlins will host a Mock Meet on Thursday, May 30th at 5:30pm.  This is where you will have the chance to learn all the volunteer positions that may be new to you: how to time, how to help at the computer table, how to help with heating, etc.  No job should be intimidating; you will be a pro at any of the volunteer jobs after just one time.  Please contact us if you are interested in being an Official this year; we always need more Officials.  Training will be provided, see below for more info.  Thank you so much for your help and support.

The Volunteer SignUp will open up at 7am on Monday, May 20th.  If you know or suspect your swimmer will not be participating in any meets, make sure to sign up to help at the various socials or other jobs that are needed during practice times.  If there are jobs that are not listed on the signup that you can help with, please let us know.  We need everyone's help to make this season a success!  If someone from your family is unable, for any reason, to help for at least 3 volunteer spots this season, there is the option to pay an additional $250, instead of volunteering.  You have the option to pay this amount upfront during registration, or we can charge your credit card on file at the end of the season. We require that all registered families keep a credit card on file, in case they are unable to complete the minimum of 3 volunteer spots.

Swim Meet Officials

Swim Meet Officials “officiate” swim meets, i.e. they ensure that swimmers swim according to the rules set by the league and state association.  Being an official counts as a "season-long" assignment. Officials are expected to officiate most of our home meets and at away meets as needed.

In order to be an Official, you must attend a training session prior to the start of the season.  Trainings are usually held in May or early June.  New officials must attend both dry land and in water lectures, returning officials are only required to attend a dry land lecture.  Generally, officials training consists of a self-study portion and an observational pool session lasting for a few hours. If you are interested and for more details, please use the "contact us" link.
