Open Positions: Junior Assistant Coaches for our 8 and Unders

We are looking for people who are willing to work with children between the ages of 4-11 to improve and teach Competitive swimming.

General Overview

The Sequoia Farms Swim Team is looking for interested candidates to act as a Junior Assistant Coach.  Qualified candidates would be primarily responsible for helping coach swimmers between the ages of 4 and 8 at each practice during the season.  Additionally there will be coaching opportunities with other age groups, team activities, planning and swim meets.  Ideal candidates will be over the age of 15 and have at least 3 years of competitive swimming, teaching or coaching experience.  

Candidates must be willing to work with children, maintain discipline when needed, and above all else maintain a safe environment for younger children to learn and grow in competitive swimming.  Safety is the number one priority and must be monitored regardless of other activities at the pool.

Skill Requirements

  • 15 years of age or older.

  • Willing to work with young children on a daily basis.

  • 3 + years of competitive swimming experience.

Desired (Not Required) Skills

  • Certified Life Guard.

  • Coaching Experience.

  • Teaching Experience.

Time Requirements

  • Must attend all practices where the 8 & U swimmers are in attendance.

  • Must attend all Meets including the Divisional meet.  (You may miss one Saturday and one Wednesday meet during the season The Divisional meet is required.  The All Star meet is not included.)

  • Must attend all other team events (Spaghetti dinner, Spirit nights)

  • You will be welcome and encouraged to help coach other age-groups, but not required.

Benefits:

This is a paid position.  You will be a part of the coaching staff and will therefore be treated as such.  You will sit with the coaches at meets and will interact with the swimmers, parents, and coaches from other teams as a representative of the Sequoia Farms Swim Team.  If the candidate for this position is a Sequoia Farms swimmer, then when you are practicing, you will be a swimmer, when you are not, you will be a coach.  Aside from being specifically responsible for the safety of the younger age group, you will be encouraged to coach the older age groups as well to help increase your experience.
