Bridlewood Torpedoes Swim Team Summer 2025
The Bridlewood Torpedoes is a volunteer, family supported and run summer swim team. The focus of the team is to provide a fun and recreational swim team for the children and community of Bridlewood.
Requirements to Join Bridlewood Torpedoes:
-
Swimmers are admitted in the following priority order as roster space allows:
A. Bridlewood neighborhood residents in good HOA standing
B. Swimmers who live within the LISD Downing Middle School geographical boundary and/or attend Bridlewood Elementary School or Downing Middle School.
C. Swimmers outside of A & B may be admitted at the conclusion of regular registration IF they do not live in another SNT team boundary AND approval from the Bridlewood HOA board, if there are available roster spots.
-
**Everyone may register during the regular registration window. Those who fall outside of our team boundaries (which are A&B) will be placed on a waitlist and officially admitted at the conclusion of regular registration as roster space allows and in the order of the timestamp their online registration was completed. Payment due for all on the last day of late registration.
-
Your child must be at least 5 years old by June 1st or 4 years old if there is an older sibling swimming on the team.
-
Your child MUST be able to swim independently at least 25 meters (50 meters for ages 11+). The coaches understand that swimmers might be a bit rusty at the beginning of the summer.
-
If your child is unable to swim independently across the pool after the first week of practice - May 30, 2025 - then we will refund your registration fee minus the cost of swimsuit and team shirt. This is non-negotiable.
-
Each swimmer must participate in at least one swim meet during the season.
-
You must have someone in your family (14 years or older) that is willing to volunteer throughout the season. Each family is required to earn four (4) volunteer points this season. Please see the ‘Volunteer Requirements’ tab on our website. www.bridlewoodtorpedoes.com
-
You must complete the swim team registration online on the team website, www.bridlewoodtorpedoes.com.
-
Each swimmer must pay the registration fee of $195. Late registration will be an additional $25 fee per family. If you live outside of the Bridlewood HOA neighborhood, then you must pay an additional non-resident fee ($25 for one swimmer, $50 max per family).
Registration
The $195 registration fee includes the following per swimmer:
-
Team swimsuit (one piece for girls and swim jammer for boys)
-
Team t-shirt
-
Swim cap
-
Ticket to Flower Mound CAC for the end of the season party
If you live outside of the Bridlewood neighborhood, then you must pay an additional non-resident fee of $25 for the first swimmer and $50 for 2 or more swimmers in the family.
Registration is open from April 7 - April 21. Late registration will be open from April 22- April 28, and there will be an additional $25 fee assessed during that time.
If you have any questions regarding registration, contact Carrie Wood at 309.370.3933 or Jessica Brugler at bridlewoodtorpedoes.com
Team Swimsuits and Swim Caps
Team swimsuits are included in the price of registration. There will be a “fitting party” on Friday, May 16th, 6-7:30pm at the Bridlewood Amenity Center at 5000 Par Drive, Flower Mound. Your child will come and try on a suit to make sure it fits, and then they will take that suit home with them. If you are unable to make it on that date, you can pick up your suit from their store in Dallas at D&J Sports. Team swim caps will be provided for each swimmer and are required for all swim meets and highly encouraged for children with long hair to wear during practices.
Volunteers
This is a volunteer supported team. We will not be able to put on swim meets, home and away, if we do not have every family’s support and willingness to help. We will need volunteers for timers during the races, corral parents, ready bench organizers, and many other positions. There is information on the website about volunteer jobs, and you will also be trained before you take on any jobs. Please be punctual and dependable with your volunteer positions. You are needed and make a huge difference!
Coaching Staff
Head Coach: Sam Skinner
Assistant Coaches: Dean Choi, Jake Schwendinger, Avery Thompson, Reese Van Hoeck
Junior Coaches: 10-14 junior coaches needed this summer. Those interested please email [email protected].
Practice Schedule and Guidelines
Swimmers are expected to attend daily practices. Exceptions are made for illness or vacations. On occasion, if a child needs to practice at a different time due to conflicts, please discuss this with the coaches. Practice times are based on the age of the child so they can practice with their peers.
We will have two Saturday morning practices on May 17th and 24th. Weekly morning practices will begin on Tuesday, May 27th. Practices are Tuesday - Friday morning.
Swimmers must wear appropriate suits to practice. No board shorts for boys and no bikini or two pieces for girls. Please do NOT wear your team suit for practice.
Swimmers must bring goggles that are appropriate for swimming to each practice.
Swimmer’s age is how old they are on 6/1/2025:
2025 PRACTICE TIMES
13+ - 7:10 - 8:20 am
11/12 - 7:30 - 8:40am
6 and under - 8:50 - 9:40 am
7/8 (7 year olds) - 9:00 - 9:50 am
7/8 (8 year olds) - 9:30 - 10:20 am
9/10 - 10:00 - 11:00 am
**If you have a practice conflict, known absence, or specific need/request for your child, please reach out to Coach Sam!
Discipline Procedures
The Bridlewood Torpedoes coaches want to provide your swimmer with a fun and memorable summer. They will work hard to create a safe learning environment that will help develop your child’s swimming abilities. Because of their motivation to encourage your child to be better, discipline procedures have been established.
If your child displays disrespectful or disruptive behavior at any time on the pool deck (including before, during, or after practices and meets), the coaches will institute disciplinary measures. This may include the following, but this is not a complete list: changing lanes, sitting out, push ups, or extra laps to swim. If the child continues to disrupt the coaches or other swimmers, then parents will be required to attend practice with their swimmer to help monitor their behavior.
Aging Up
This section only pertains to swimmers with birthdays that fall from June 1 to September 1. The SNT league determines the age group for swimmers by the age they are on June 1st in the year we are swimming. For example, if your child’s birthday is June 9, 2018, then they would swim as a 6 year old all season because that is the age they are on the cut off date, despite turning 7 during the summer.
If your child’s birthday does fall in between June 1 and September 1, you have the option to “age up” to the next age group. Using the same example as above, this child could choose to swim “up” with the 7 and 8 age group instead of the 6 and under group that our league dictates is her age group. However, once you “age up” you CANNOT change.
Under no circumstances will a swimmer be allowed to age down a group.
Swim Meets
Mock Meet - May 30th 5-6:30 p.m.
Each swimmer will swim 2 events (freestyle and backstroke) during the mock meet to set their base time for the season. We will use these times for our “Speeding Ticket” program. During this meet, we will require parent volunteers similar to a regularly scheduled meet.
**This meet is an opportunity for new parents to be trained and become familiar with their volunteer position.**
Regular Season Meets
We will have 4 meets this year. Please make sure you are checking the website and your email for more information regarding meets.
Transportation to and from the meets is the responsibility of the family. Parents are required to remain at the meet for the duration. Arrive 15-30 minutes prior to the beginning of warm up time. Bring plenty of sunscreen, towels, water, snacks, goggles, swim cap, a chair, and something to do in between races. Bring small coolers to keep your drinks/food cold.
Please notify Coach Sam and the volunteer coordinator (Erin Arnold) if you will not be at a meet as soon as possible.
During the meet, swimmers are required to check into their designated corral for race assignments. Swimmers MUST remain in the team area during the meet. Bring activities for the swimmers to do between races (games, books, electronic games, snacks). Each swimmer is expected to remain at the meet until all of their races are over. Swimmers must be checked out of their corral before leaving with a parent.
Championship Meet
At the end of the season, there is a Championship Meet which would include all of the teams in our league. Those teams include: Wellington, Lantana, Castlewood, Highland Shores, Heritage, and Bridlewood. More information on the league can be found at swimnt.com. The Championship Meet will be Monday, June 30th.
Important League Rules
-
Each individual swimmer may compete in a max of 4 events Individual events are 3 max. Relay events are 2 max.
-
Breaststroke, butterfly, IM, and the medley relay will be swam as an 8 and under event, so 6 and under will be with 7 and 8 year olds for those events.
-
Each event is scored for all athletes racing. (EX: no separate breakout for 8u on 50 free).
-
Official rulings are final. Only contest allowed is to ensure the correct swimmer was cited for infraction.
-
9 and 10 year olds can swim either the 25 free or 50 free, but not both in a meet.
-
11/12, 13/14, and 15+ can swim either the 50 free or 100 free, but not both in a meet.
Meet Entries
We ask that parents sign up their swimmers for 2-3 individual events and the coaches will assign relays after sign ups end. All sign ups must be done on Wednesday night prior to the upcoming meet. Coaches will assign races if the parent does not indicate a preference.
Team Communication
All correspondence throughout the season will be done via email, the team website and the team Facebook page (Bridlewood Torpedoes Swim Team). Also, all swimmers will have folders at the pool that will be used for ribbons, speeding tickets, handouts, and other information.
Sponsorships
If you are interested in an opportunity to support the swim team, you can look at being a sponsor this year. Any questions regarding sponsorships can be directed to Bri Randall at [email protected]
Team Pictures
Team, individual, and sibling pictures will be taken during a morning practice during this season. We encourage everyone to attend so we can have the entire team in the picture, even if you do not want to purchase individual pictures.
End of the Season Party
Save the date for Saturday, June 28, 2025. The team will have an end of the year party and award ceremony to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of all swimmers. We will be going back to the Flower Mound CAC for the party. More details to come later. Swimmer tickets for this event are included in the price of registration.
Please do not hesitate to contact any of us with questions throughout the season. Thank you for helping make this a great season!
