Welcome and Updates from Coach Richard

JENNIFER BURON

Fairwood Barracudas,

My name is Richard Scott Seibel, and I have the privilege of being your 2025 Season Head Coach for the best swim team around! For those who haven’t met me yet, I’m the tall guy on deck who’s usually loudly encouraging the swimmers to swim faster. Fairwood has been like a second home to me since I was about two years old, and I truly can’t think of a better way to spend my summer than back on deck with all of you.

A bit about me: I’m currently a student at the University of Colorado Boulder, where I’m majoring in Political Science and Secondary Education with a minor Leadership Studies. My time in Colorado has been filled with learning, outdoor adventures (yes, I ski every week), and lots of campus involvement. I could talk about my time in BoCo for hours, so if you want to learn more about CU, don't hesitate to come up to me! Sko Buffs!

Now, let’s talk about what to expect this season!

Pool Rules & Safety First

  • Coaches and Lifeguards are here to keep you safe. Please listen to and respect their instructions at all times. There are 200 families and only 5 coaches, so please pay attention to what you and your swimmers are doing so we can stay focused on swimming!

  • No running on deck, no diving in the shallow end, and no roughhousing in or out of the water. (Especially on the chairs or in the Locker Rooms)

  • Swimmers should arrive on time and be ready to go, cap on, goggles on head, and positive energy flowing!

  • If you're sick, stay home. We want everyone healthy and safe this summer!

  • The pool is heated, it is set to 80 degrees, and it will be 80 degrees all summer.

  • All the rules are posted around the pool! So if you forget, look for the signs or ask a coach/lifeguard.

Team Expectations

  • Effort, Attitude, and Spirit – Whether you're a seasoned Barracuda or it's your first summer, we care most about effort, attitude, and team spirit! You and your swimmers will get as much as you put into the summer as you want, the more involved you are, the more likely you'll have fun!

  • Respect Each Other – Treat teammates, coaches, officials, and opponents with kindness and sportsmanship always.

  • Show Up and Try – Practices are where the magic happens. The more you're here, the more you'll improve and the more fun you’ll have.

  • Cheer Loud, Swim Proud – Get ready to bring the energy on meet days! We’ll have cheers, team themes, and plenty of hype!

  • Our Fairwood Family takes care of each other. Be willing to ask questions or support your fellow team families. If you are a returning family, please reach out to a new family and share with them the tips and tricks to get through the season. When we succeed, we succeed together!

Extras to Know

  • We have sent out a schedule for practice and meets, but be on the lookout for fun events and other team activities!

  • Keep an eye out for communication from myself, Trace and Elaine, and your age group coaches, email and Facebook will be our primary ways to share updates! If you haven't joined the FB Page please do!

  • Volunteer opportunities, future events, and meet sign-ups will all be coming your way soon!

Starts and Turns Clinic!

  • Join us for a 1-hour specialty clinic focused on one of the most important, and often overlooked, parts of your race: starts and turns! This clinic is perfect for swimmers looking to gain confidence on the blocks, improve streamline technique, and master faster flip and open turns.

I am beyond excited for what this summer holds from! Whether you're aiming to beat your personal best, make new friends, or just enjoy being in the water, there’s a place for you on this team and I couldn't be happier that you are all here with us! Let’s make this season one to remember!

From the East to the West, Fairwood is the Best!
