Practice:
-
Kids must come to their assigned age group practice
-
No practice/attendance requirement. A good number to try for is 3 practices a week.
-
Give coaches space to run practice. The deck is open, and everyone is welcome to stay on the deck/watch practice, please wait until after (or before) to find us and ask any questions.
-
Kids should have a suit and goggles. Caps are encouraged, but not required. Kids can wear any cap during practice.
-
Pool is CLOSED during practice. Siblings will not be allowed in the zero depth area during this time.
-
Night practice is available Monday and Wednesday night from 6-7. We have limited space, so please only use these as needed (first practice may be cold, but that isn’t a reason to use night practice). Morning practice should be prioritized, especially for 8 & unders.
-
Pioneer members are only able to use Hawks when participating in practices (there is no check-in in the mornings).
Meets
-
Meets are not required, but we do encourage kids to give them a try.
-
Home meets require that each family participating provides one volunteer. Swimmers signed up for the meet that do not have a volunteer signed up will not be put in the meet.
-
Volunteer sign up opens at noon on the Sunday before the meet.
-
Swimmers can swim 2 individual events and 2 relays at each meet. It is ok to swim just 1 event. Not all swimmers will be put on relays. There is a 100 Medley listed for sign up. This is an individual event where one swimmer swims a length of each stroke, not a relay.
-
If you ever have questions about what events are appropriate, please reach out via email, or talk to a coach after practice - or better yet, have your swimmer talk to us!
-
Sign up is done on the hawksfly.com site. You choose your 2 individual events. Coaches have final say, but will communicate when we make changes.
-
Coaches make relays based on the sign up - there is nothing you need to do to sign up for relays.
-
Please use the notes section on the sign up to communicate if a swimmer can’t do a relay (leaving early/coming late/not comfortable with it yet). Coaches have final say on relays.
-
Heat sheets are available at all meets, and will tell you when and where your swimmer will swim for each event they signed up for. This is also where you will see if they are on a relay. Before leaving a meet, please make sure your swimmer is completely done! Sometimes swimmers leave without seeing that they were on a freestyle relay at the end of the meet.
-
Most younger swimmers write their events on their arms (event #, heat #, lane # by column). Find an experienced parent if you need a hand!
-
Swimmers wearing caps at meets MUST wear a Hawks cap. Coaches have extras just in case.
-
Warm ups are required for all participants, and will be held at the host pool. Standard warm up times for Saturday morning are as follows:
-
11 & ups 7-7:15
-
9-10s 7:15-7:30
-
8 & unders 7:30-7:45
-
Meets start at 8 AM
-
-
Order of meet events are as follows:
Miscellaneous
-
Communication is important. Please reach out to Jon ([email protected]) with any questions or concerns.
-
We send out weekly (sometimes twice weekly) emails with important information for the week.
-
Most pools have a decent space for teams to set up their chairs/tents during meets. If we are limited on space, Jon will send out an email prior to that meet.
-
Concessions are also available at all meets (bring cash just in case), but you are also allowed to bring your own snacks/drinks if you prefer.
-
All City Requirement - Swimmers must participate in 3 Hawks meets during the summer in order to swim at the All City meet at the end of the year. This DOES NOT include the High Point Invite.
MOST IMPORTANTLY
Our coaches are very proud of our team, and we have very high expectations for both swimmers and families. We expect great sportsmanship in practice and at meets from all Hawks/Pioneer families.
