Meet Information: Peggy Ramirez Memorial Zone 3 Winter Championships, January 20-21, 2024

Mehrad Zarrehparvar

PEGGY RAMIREZ MEMORIAL ZONE 3 WINTER CHAMPIONSHIPS

This weekend the Seals will be participating in the Pacific Swimming Zone 3 Quinn Swim Center in Santa Rosa, California.

The forecast is for a very rainy weekend. Fortunately, the deck area around the indoor pool will be available for sheltering between races. Nonetheless, please bring extra layers of clothing and spare dry clothes. Staying warm will be essential to help our swimmers perform well.

Relays

There will be relays at the beginning of the meet on Saturday and Sunday, please have your swimmer check-in with Coach Mehrad or Coach Taylor when they arrive at the meet to see if they have been assigned to a relay.

49ers Relay

On Saturday the meet will begin with a 49er Relay. This relay is a mixed gender freestyle relay with one restriction, the sum of the athletes ages on the relay team must be equal to or less than 49 years old. We will try to enter as many of these teams as possible, so it is very important that swimmers check-in with the coaches so we know who is available.

We will hold a team warmup at 8:00 AM and a team meeting at 8:50 AM.

Please note that USA Swimming meets require preregistration, swimmers cannot be added the day of the meet.

Pre-Meet Checklist:

  1. Swimmers must sign-in at the check-in desk as soon as arriving at the meet venue (guardians cannot check-in swimmers).  USA Swimming competitions require swimmers to check-in at least 1 hour prior to the swimmer’s first race.  Check-in for each event closes approximately one hour prior to the start of that event.  Swimmers who have not checked in prior to the event closing will not be seeded (assigned a heat and lane) in that event.  Swimmers may scratch events at the check-in desk if the event has not already closed.
  2. Meet at the team tents prior to team warmup.  Swimmers ages 9 and older will meet at 8:00 AM and swimmers ages 8 and under will meet at 8:30 AM.
  3. Attend mandatory team meeting at 8:50 AM on Saturday and Sunday at the team tents.

During the Meet:

  1. Check the progress of the meet frequently to avoid missing races. The starter will not wait for late arriving swimmers so swimmers should arrive at their heat and lane a few events early.
  2. Cool-down after every race.  This meet will have a two warm-up and cool-down lanes available during the meet.  Cooling down after a race will help your swimmer perform well as the day progresses especially in the later races.  Depending on the age of the swimmer cool-down will typically be 150 – 300 yards of slow tempo swimming.
  3. Check-in with a coach after every race after race cool-down so we can provide feedback.

Other Notes:

  • Swimmers must check-in with their coach prior to scratching any race.
  • Bring extra towels and spare clothing.
  • No video is permitted on the block side of the pool. This rule is strictly enforced!
