Strawberry Seals Family Service Commitment Agreement - Spring Session 2024

Online sign-ups for Service Commitment will start on March 29, 2024 8PM and close on April 12, 2024 8PM

The Strawberry Seals Swim Team is a parent-run organization. It takes 100+ parents to run a single meet. As part of participating in the Seals community, and to ensure the season is a success, we require that each family commit to helping perform duties throughout the MSL season. We simply cannot run a swim season without active parent volunteering, and all swim teams have comparable volunteer requirements. Volunteering also helps to boost our team spirit and build community and friendships. Go Seals!

This commitment applies to all families registered for the 2024 MSL season, regardless of how many meets the child attends.

The Seals Service Commitment must be signed by each family upon registration. By signing the Seals Service Commitment you agree to the following:

* Each family is required to perform at least 6 service shifts during the meets throughout the MSL season.  There are also non-meet jobs and Crew Chief positions that are considered to be equivalent to 6 service shifts.

* While all swimmers are encouraged to attend swim meets, families of Fundamental swimmers who choose to opt out of participating in all swim meets, and families who only have high school swimmers, are exempt from the requirement to volunteer for 6 service shifts. However, Fundamental families who do not participate in swim meets MUST still volunteer at least once. If a Fundamental swimmer who initially opted out of participating in swim meets subsequently decides to participate in meets, their family must volunteer for an additional shift for each meet up to the 6 required shifts. High school families are encouraged to volunteer if they are able, and would be much appreciated.

* Shifts may be performed by anyone high school age or older, and multiple shifts can be accomplished during a single meet by one person, or by several people/members of a family.

* In addition, ALL families who have a swimmer participating in Champs and/or All Stars meets are required to volunteer a shift during those meet(s), including parents of high school students.

* Crew Chief positions run throughout the MSL season and fulfill the entire season volunteer requirement since they help at all our home meets. These positions are usually established early in the season and by experienced/trained families. Participation during Champs and All Stars is still required if your child participates in those. Please email the Volunteer Coordinator if you are interested in a Crew Chief position.

* If you are not able to fulfill your commitment, you are responsible for getting a sub for your job and notifying the Volunteer Coordinator of this change in advance of the event.

* We observe a strict ‘no-show’ policy. Failure to meet service obligation shifts- either due to failure to sign up for sufficient shifts OR failure to show up for a committed shift- will result in a $200 fee for EACH SHIFT not performed, and may result in your child being prohibited from swimming at the next meet.

* You must check-in with the Volunteer Coordinator or the Assistant BEFORE THE MEET STARTS and receive a name tag to receive credit.

*2nd half timers or volunteers in the 2nd half (ex. breakdown) who are not able to check in before the meet, can get their name tag from the Volunteer Coordinator, Assistant, or the Head Timer during the intermission to check in and receive credit. It is the volunteer's responsibility to get their name tag, or risk not getting credit.

* If you arrive more than 20 minutes after the start of your volunteer shift, you will be considered a "no-show" for that shift.

* Families may "opt out" of their service commitment by contacting the Volunteer Coordinator during the sign up time period and paying $1000. This option is limited to only a few families, and will be up to the sole discretion of the Volunteer Coordinator.

* If you do not fulfill all of your volunteer commitments you will have to pay a $1200 fee. Note: Seals hires high school Seals team members when necessary to run the meets to standard and these funds go to supporting this additional cost.

* If these commitments and fines remain unresolved at the end of the season, the family will need to pay the fines before joining the Seals the following year. Continued failure to comply with your service obligations can result in removal from the team. Matters of removal are within the sole discretion of the Seals Board of Directors.
