Sea Dogs Swim Team Information

April through July Swim Season

The Sea Dogs Swim Team is a member of the Mid-Valley Swim League (MVSL). Mid-Valley is a recreational swim league comprised of teams from Tracy, Ripon, Manteca, Modesto, Discovery Bay and Turlock.

The Sea Dog home pool is located at Turlock High School Steve Feaver Aquatics Center.

Sea Dogs is NOT a yearlong swim program that offers noncompetitive swimming lessons or requires USA Swimming registration. The recreational competitive swim season runs from April through July.

Sea Dog Mission Statement

Sea Dogs will strive to build and maintain a superior community-based and family-supported recreational youth swim program that provides a positive competitive environment. Our goal is for all swimmers, regardless of ability, to reach their highest personal potential and gain a thorough knowledge of the sport.

We strive to promote sportsmanship, responsibility, self-confidence and team unity. The Sea Dogs program will emphasize the development of swim stroke mechanics and conditioning while applying these skills to a positive competitive experience. Personal growth and improved competitive swimming are the targeted foundation outcomes of our swim program.

Minimum Qualifications to be a Sea Dog Team Member

In order to be eligible to participate on this recreational swim team, swimmers may not practice with, nor swim for, any other swim teams, except school teams. Sea Dogs is a competitive, spring/summer swim team. Therefore, each swimmer must participate in a minimum of FOUR (4) league meets.

To be a member of the swim team, swimmers must pass the following minimal qualifications to attend practices and participate in swim meets:

  • Under 8 Beginner: Swim across dive pool unassisted.
  • Under 8 Intermediate: Swim one lap of freestyle and one lap of backstroke unassisted.
  • 9-18 Beginner: Can swim 1 lap unassisted.

New Swimmer Try Outs

Try outs for new swimmers to the team may be held prior to the start of practice. New swimmers must be able to perform the minimum requirement to become a Sea Dog by swimming 25 yards (1 lap) unassisted.

6 & Under new swimmers will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Registration

Registration is on this website only.

Sea Dogs is a family-based swim team. Required team swim suits are NOT included in the registration fee and range in price from $40 (boys) to $70 (girls).

Practice and Swim Meets

  • Practice for ALL swimmers starts on April 1st. New swimmer try outs may be held prior to April 1st.
  • Practice is scheduled at the Turlock High School pool Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
  • Pool times are scheduled around high school and city-sponsored activities. We attempt to reserve the pool starting at 6 PM during the high school swim team season. When the school year ends, we try to get the pool at an earlier time.
  • Starting in June, there will be an AM practice and PM practice time slot.
  • Swim meets are mostly held on Saturdays starting in mid-May and run through late July. A swim meet usually goes from 8 AM to 4 PM.

Parent Volunteers

Each registered family account must have a family volunteer signed up for a two-hour meet shift in order to sign up their swimmer(s) to the same swim meet. If there is not a volunteer signed up for a job, then the swimmer(s) under that registered under that family account will be scratched prior to seeding of the meet. Volunteers must be over sixteen (16) years of age.

Extenuating circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis and must be communicated via email to the parent relations coordinator.

Volunteer sign-ups are available on the Events tab.

Sea Dogs Refund Policy

Any request for refunds must be made in writing on or before May 1st of each swim season. If your swimmer has been in the pool prior to the request for a refund, Sea Dogs retain the right to issue a partial refund based upon the swimmer’s practice attendance.

No refunds will be issued after the end of May.

Written requests should be sent to our Parent Relations Coordinator (Erin Wurth). See contact info under the Coaches link in the upper left corner of the website.
