Volunteer Policy

Do I Have to Volunteer?

Volunteering is crucial for the success of our team. We simply can't do it without the help of volunteers like you. So, to answer the question - YES, you are required to volunteer. Our team's volunteer coordinator works hard to gather all the necessary resources to make swim meets successful. Running a home meet requires 25 to 30 volunteers to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Is it really that big of a deal if I don't show up?

Yes, it's a big deal!

The job you signed up for must be done. If you don't fulfill your commitment, someone else has to cover for you. If that person has already fulfilled their volunteer responsibility, then they are doing twice the work. That's not fair to them.

Please do not miss your volunteer commitments. If you cannot make it, contact the volunteer coordinator as soon as possible. This gives us time to find your replacement.

First Year Volunteer? Don't Worry!

Here are four reasons not to be scared:

  1. You are never alone. There is always someone available to help if needed.
  2. Review the Volunteer Job Descriptions . You'll understand each job and can choose based on your comfort level.
  3. Will you miss your child's race? NO! Timers get front-row seats. Most jobs allow you to take a moment to watch your child's race.
  4. Volunteering is a great way to meet other parents and make new friends. Together, we share in the success of our team and our swimmers.

We, as a team, thank you in advance for your participation!

Parent Volunteer Commitment 2025

The success of the Turlock Sea Dogs Swim Team depends heavily on parent participation. Each family is required to volunteer for the following:

  • Time Trials: One (1) two-hour shift.
  • Invitational Swim Meets: One (1) two-hour shift per day that your child swims.
  • League Swim Meets: One (1) two-hour shift per meet.
  • League Championships: One (1) two-hour shift per day.

Our team depends on volunteers for every aspect. If you do not sign up, you will be automatically assigned a job. Failure to show up will result in being assigned two shifts for the next meet. Missing those shifts may result in your swimmer being unable to participate.

Note: If all jobs are filled but parents remain unassigned, you will be placed on an alternate list and called if extra help is needed.

Your participation is crucial for our swimmers' success and the smooth running of our meets.

If you cannot commit to a shift because of childcare or other circumstances, we understand. Please email us at [email protected] or speak directly with a board member. We have alternative roles like data entry, raffle table, hospitality, and more.
