ELIGIBILITY
Children aged 5 (or turn 5 by September 1 and are enrolling for Kindergarten that fall) through graduating seniors are eligible to become members of the Cobras Team.
Swimmers must participate in at least three dual meets to be a member of the team.
With the exception of swimmers under the age of 8, swimmers must be able to perform freestyle and backstroke legally. Eligible swimmers must be able to swim (in some fashion - swim style and speed are not a criteria for under 8’s) at least one length of the pool unassisted, before the beginning of the season.
REGISTRATION
The registration fee is $220 per swimmer for current Cress Creek Commons Homeowners and members of the Cress Creek Commons Bathe and Racquet Club. The fee for non-homeowners and non-pool members is $320 per swimmer. All registration dates and forms will be available on the website; www.gocobras.com.
Information on how to purchase an annual pool membership is available on the Cress Creek Commons HOA website cresscreekcommons.com.
Your registration fee pays for Naperville Swim Conference fees, insurance, ribbons, team equipment costs, some social activities, coaches salaries and pool maintenance and repair.
Information on the Priority of Registrations:
While it is our hope to accommodate all interested swimmers, we do have limits on how many swimmers can be accepted into each age group (by gender) and the associated practice times.
First priority is given to all returning members/families regardless of whether they are Cress Creek Commons Home-Owners, Non-Resident Pool members or Non-Resident Non-Pool members.
For New Members, priority is given as follows:
- First to Cress Creek Commons homeowners.
- Next is to Non-Cress Creek Commons homeowners with pool membership.
- Last priority is given to Non-Cress Creek Commons homeowners without pool membership.
POOL MEMBERSHIP
Swimmers whose families are not members of the Cress Creek Commons Pool are not allowed any additional usage of the pool beyond their morning practice periods, swim meets and team social events. However, for an annual fee, non-residents of Cress Creek Commons can join the pool for the season. Please refer to cresscreekcommons.com.
VOLUNTEERING
For new members and as a reminder for returning members; parent volunteers are critical (i.e. setup crew, timers, judges, concession workers, etc.) to have a successful home meet. Away meets require fewer parent volunteers. In addition, parent volunteering is required to staff the end-of-season Classic and City Championship meets. We fully expect all parents will meet their obligations.
Job assignment will be done through our website in June. You must have paid your registration fees in full in order to participate in the job sign-up when it opens. You will select to work at approximately 4 dual swim meets plus any invitational meet(s) in which your child participates. How many jobs each family works depends completely on how many families register for Cobras. You will be responsible for finding your own replacement if you are assigned to a meet, which you are unable to attend. Replacement volunteers must be aged 16 or over.
PRACTICES
Practices are held Monday through Friday mornings when the air temperature is above 65 degrees. On cool mornings, the Coach may choose not to practice in the water, but instead hold out of water instruction or other physical conditioning activities. No practice will be held if there is lightning or heavy rain.
SWIM MEETS
Dual Meets
There are eight to ten dual swim meets during the course of a season. Each swimmer must participate in at least three meets to advance to postseason meets (Classic or City).
Invitationals
There is one invitational meet for 7-18 year old girls and one invitational meet for 7-18 year old boys. These meets involve 5-6 teams and they DO require volunteers. If your child swims at an Invitational, you will likely be assigned a job, generally for half of the meet.
Championship Meets
The Classic and City Championship Meets reward our swimmers with a “big meet” experience and provide the final competition for the season. These events provide the swimmers with the opportunity to compete against hundreds of other swimmers from across the Conference.
This Classic Championship Meet is held at one or more of the local high school pools and is open to all 6 and under swimmers and all other swimmers who do not have City qualifying times.
The City Championship Meet is open to all swimmers aged 7+ that have recorded a City qualifying time in a particular event at any dual meet during the season.
Swimmers can compete in individual events at City OR Classic, but not both.
