Happenings this Week
TUESDAY 5/27 is our dive well warmup from 5-7pm (may end early depending on weather). Official practices begin WEDNESDAY 5/28 at 4:15-5:00 pm, 5:00-5:45 pm or 5:45-6:30 pm! We understand end of school activities overlapping with summer practices can mean schedules are very tight. We encourage divers to make as many practices as they can, but understand the need for flexibility. During early season practices coaches will focus on refreshing fudamentals, kicking in muscle memory, and building up confidence.
Registration
Team registrations are rolling in and as usual we have girls and boys registered in every age group!!! If you haven’t had a chance to register, please drop into Team Unify today at https://www.teamunify.com/MemRegStart.jsp?team=recpvgdtmd. If you know of families interested in diving please spread the word and encourage them to reach out to us! We always love to grow our team.
Judges and Referees Clinics
We can't hold meets without our Judges and Referees! New to officiating? Complete the Judges training which includes an on-line portion (click here) and in-persion session (dates listed below). If you aren't quite ready for Judging, but want to better understand diving, the Judges clinics are for you as well!!! If you are an existing experienced Judge, and interested in Refereeing, please sign up for a Referees Clinic, and let Dive Rep Carrie know. See the MCDL website for details on training.
Tiger Cub Drop off Zone (and New Sidewalk)
You might have noticed the spiffy redo of the lower parking lot that includes a new drop off zone! This zone creates a safer situation for everyone IF we all quickly stop, drop off and go. (Do not stand or park in the turnaround and do not go down into the lowest lot, unless you have disability placard.) When walking in the parking lot, please use the new sidewalk that runs up the left-hand side of the lot to avoid cars backing in and out!
Tiger Gear Tag Sale
If your divers have outgrown their Tiger swag, please donate their clean, gently used gear (e.g. suits, sweat shirts, t-shirs, lounge pants, etc.) for the Tag Sale. Just drop them in the bin in the pool manager’s office. The annual Tiger Tag Sale will take place on Friday, June 13 at 5:30pm! All proceeds benefit the Glenwood Swim and Dive Teams.
Seasonal Jobs
As we mentioned in our last newsletter, we are in need of volunteers to handle a few specific season-long jobs:
- Team photographer (counts as up to 5 slots): It's always nice to capture our kiddos mid-air and share the photos at the season's ending banquet. If you have an eye for action-shots, the right equipment, and a know-how with photo sharing sites, we'd love to have your help.
- Social events lead (counts as up to 5 slots): We're looking for someone with organizational prowess to help us organize the opening potluck and family dive meet events supported by our other parent volunteers.
- Concessions lead (counts as up to 6 slots): We're looking for someone who is comfortable helping to oversee meet concessions from set-up to takedown for both of our home meets. You will be able to take breaks to see your diver(s) show their stuff during the meet, but will otherwise ensure concessions runs smoothly with our other parent volunteers.
Remeber all families must complete volunteer jobs throughout the season. Anyone willing to consider one of these jobs, please reach out to Sara at diveteam[email protected]
Glenwood Dive 101 - Info for New Families and to Share!!
Glenwood Dive team is part of the Montgomery County Dive Leauge (MCDL), an inclusive, recreational program that provides divers with the opportunity to learn new skills and build confidence, all while having great fun in our supportive team setting! Our team includes first timers, returning summer divers, year-round club divers, and many high school competitors.
Glenwood is one of the founding pools of the MCDL. With 60+ team members most years, we are one of the largest teams in the MCDL. As Division II champions in 2024, we were slated to move up to Division I this season. But a new pool joined MCDL this winter, a reorganization ensued, and we are staying in Division II with our friends at Robinhood, Seven Locks, Old Georgetown, and Regency Estates.
Our Head Coach Noah Ehrenberg is in his 14th season at Glenwood teaching our kids to dive and mentoring our teens and young adults to become amazing assitant coaches! Outside of summer league you will find Noah coaching Montgomery Dive Club's National Developlment Program for talented and committed divers. Our 2025 assistant coaches will be led by Daniel Vagnucci a GW Dive alumn, and include Aidan Lawlor, Keira Majarowitz, and Morgan Slattery who will all also be competing in the 15-18 age group!
We hold practices in the afternoons through the end of MCPS, and in the mornings or afternoons once school is out, beginning June 18th. Practices are scheduled so athletes can participate in both dive and swim if they wish. We participate in five dual meets on Sunday afternoons (4pm) starting on June 15th. Participating in any or all meets is completely optional.
