For Newer Dive Families -- Jobs 101
Hello New Dive Families,
As announced, jobs will open tomorrow, Monday June 2 at 8pm. See below for the nuts and bolts of the process and some position descriptions regarding what the jobs involve.
Family Jobs 101
The dive team runs efficiently due to our awesome family support. A commitment that comes with your kiddos team participation is parent help through our family jobs. To complete your job responsibilities you will need to sign up for 3 jobs/1 diver; 5 jobs/2 divers; 6 jobs/3 divers. Note: Your dive reps will retain more sanity the earlier that all slots are filled your reminder email volume will go down. We are always happy for extra volunteers!
How to Sign Up
Overview: To sign up you will go to Team Unify, look under Events & Jobs, review the jobs list by event, and find your fit for volunteering.
Details: On the team page, select EVENTS. For each event there is a JOB SIGNUP button. After that screen is a list of available jobs. For meets, take note of the time for the jobs so you know if you are signing up for the first (12& Under) or second (13-18) half of the meet. Times are a bit fluid depending on # of divers competing but should be close. Check the box for your sign up, and SAVE. It’s helpful if you include a contact number in case of changes in schedules due to rain/weather/other circumstances.
Individual Meet Jobs
Meet jobs are divided, so you can judge first half 12 &under or second half 13-18s.
Table Worker: Table workers have great seats at meets, recording scores on dive sheets, operating a calculator, and preparing ribbons. These jobs are simple, you have a great view of the boards and there are no certifications needed for this job! The Meet Secretary will match you with a task at the table.
Judge: This is what the name implies and includes front row seats, poolside. This job requires certification through an MCDL clinic. Certification lasts for 3 years, though we highly encourage a refresher course annually. (Even if you aren’t ready to judge from the start, consider taking the clinic to fast track your understanding of the sport and effort our divers put into practice each day.) Bonus, this skill translates to high school dive meets.
Referee: Also an MCDL certified-position for folks who have already judged dive and have good understanding of the MCDL handbook. The referee makes calls on the legality the dive performed. This also translates to high school dive meets.
Concessions Shoppers, Grillers and Sales: Part of our team income is produced by our famous Glenwood Grill. Concessions volunteers help with shopping (Costco Shopper), sales of food, drinks and snacks, and/or grilling up our dogs, chicken skewers, and burgers. Volunteers working the first half help with set up, while volunteers working the second half help with clean-up. And don’t worry, you can always step away to watch your diver when they’re on the board!
Seasonal and Other Jobs
Meets Set Up: This job is a simple one – help set up for BOTH home meets ahead of the start, beginning at 2:30. Arrange tables for snack bar and the meet desk, and arrange chairs for the meet desk and judges. Set up Glenwood tents.
Meets Clean Up: After BOTH home meets you’ll straighten up, returning chairs and tables to their position, breaking down tents and returning them to storage and cleaning up garbage left by those in the vicinity of the dive well. Timing of this job is when the second half is over, so may be variable.
Social Events Coordinator; Like to plan parties? This job is for you! This is a seasonal job that requires a self-motivated individual with great organizational skills. You’ll help the Dive Reps plan the Welcome Potluck 6/8 and the Family Dive Meet 7/10 events including making a sign-up genius for the potluck for each event and for the dive meet coordinating the other volunteers. Worth 5 job points!!
Family Dive Meet Help: This special night of fun and high entertainment on 7/10 features a Freaky Friday like reversal of parent/diver roles. Parents get a taste of the boards and the divers judge! The Social Events coordinator puts together the materials and oversees the evening’s event (we have a full game plan binder), while the other volunteers assist with execution.
Banquet Help: These jobs work with the Banquet Coordinator (already assigned) and include help with shopping, food serving, set up and clean up on 7/21. This night is a really great cap to the season. Our banquet is close by, held at the Knights of Columbus.
T-Shirt Decorating: This is one of the most fun jobs – working with Swim and Dive Team kiddos to decorate their GW Green t-shirts with bleach pens using a stencil or “free hand.”
Tag Sale: Supporting the sale on 6/13 of gently used GW gear to ensure these items don’t end up in the landfill as quickly and help our families save money.
As always reach out with any questions, S,C & T.
