2025 Hidden Hollow Dive Team
Hello all Hidden Hollow parents and divers! We are excited for the season to begin in several short weeks. As new information becomes available, you will see it updated here. Feel free to reach out with any questions to [email protected].
Pre Season Schedule
Pre-season dive practice will be weekdays at Springton Lake Middle School, from Monday, June 2nd until Friday, June 6th. Practices are from 5:30 - 6:30 PM, and Hidden Hollow will share the boards with Knowlton divers. Indoor pre-season is optional, but we encourage divers to come to as many practices as they can. For swimmers, most choose to attend on the same days they have swim practice. On Monday, June 9th, we will begin outdoor practices, likely at the same time, and also Monday through Friday at Hidden Hollow. By the following week, most schools will be out and we will begin our regular season schedule.

Some frequently asked questions:
When should my athlete start diving? Can they try it out before committing to the team?
Younger divers often struggle with coordination and being able to move the board due to their size. We recommend divers be able to pass Hidden Hollow's deep water test (or come close) before they try diving. Typically, they are 8 or 9, although we have had some 7-year-olds. If your athlete is already on the swim team and is interested in diving, have them stay after for pre-season practice and see if it interests them. We always welcome newcomers, and many kids with a gymnastics background find they take quickly to the sport.
How do I sign my diver up for meets?
The short answer is that your diver is automatically signed up. At the start of the season, the coaches will send a form to each parent asking about availability and which weeks they will be away. We understand this is summer, and vacation is part of most families' plans. However, dive meets are often won or lost by how many athletes a team has in each category. Meets are not optional, and unless you are told otherwise, please assume your athlete will be competing. For away meets, the coaches will make sure to specify which divers will be attending, as there is a limit on how many athletes we can bring. If you have any questions, ask a coach!
Is there any parent help required?
Yes, we ask each family to provide a volunteer for at least one meet. Parents play a huge part in helping things run smoothly, and if we do not get sufficient help, coaches are forced to fill those slots instead of "coaching" divers. Volunteers are asked to help work the scoring table or judge. Scoring tables involve addition with the help of a calculator and copying down the judges' scores. Judging can be intimidating, but it can be taught very quickly or learned by watching meets as the season progresses.
What skills should my diver have to participate in meets?
Divers are required to know a certain number of dives across a variety of categories to participate in meets. All dives require a hurdle or approach of some kind. 10U must know 3 dives across 2 categories, 12U 4 dives across 3 categories, 14U 5 dives across 3 or 4 categories, and 18U 6 dives across 4 or 5 categories. Jumps do not count as dives, and the same dive but different positions will not count. For the older divers, required dive categories vary weekly. If that sounds confusing to you, don't worry. Coaches will help divers learn the dives they need to succeed and ultimately decide what skills they will perform. If divers do not meet the requirements, they may still be able to exhibition at home meets. Volunteering teaches parents a lot about the behind-the-scenes to help them get more involved in their diver's season. For the optional Champs, each diver will need to know 1 more dive than for the dual meets, so we will work on a variety of skills throughout the season.
