Notes from Classic/City Parent Meetings - PLEASE REVIEW!

Christine Paik

Please take the time to read these very important notes about both upcoming Championship Meets.  Thank you in advance for your attention to these details.

There are TWO Championship Meets:

  1. CLASSIC
  2. CITY

WONDERING WHO SWIMS AT EACH MEET??

All 6&under kids must swim Classic.

All 13&over kids must swim City.

For age groups 7/8, 9/10, and 11/12, those swimmers must qualify to swim in City in at least 2 events.

If they do not qualify for City, they will swim at Classic.

To check your swimmer’s times, go to the Tall Grass Lightning website, go to Events & Competition tab, then Meet Results.

If you have at least 2 qualifying times for City, you should swim City, because you will not be able to do those events at Classic.

Swimmers can only do 4 events total (including relays).

We can only have 1 Relay (A Relay) for each meet.

It is possible for swimmers who swim 4 events at Classic to be invited to swim a relay at City. You will not be able to do individual events at City, but you may do a relay or relays. (Swimmers may be moved to City relay, even if they do not have City time.)

CLASSIC Championship Meet

Neuqua Valley High School (2360 95th St, Naperville, IL)

Saturday, July 20th

Classic has morning & afternoon sessions, and we are the AFTERNOON session this year.

Please arrive between 11:30 AM - 12noon.

The actual meet starts at 1:40 PM.

Ends approximately 5:30 PM

Declare your swimmer(s) for Classic by Friday, July 12th

Parents declare for the meet, but do not pick events.

If a swimmer is registered for Classic but then gets the 2 City qualifying times at the Cress Creek meet on Tuesday, July 16th, and your swimmer would like to switch from Classic to City, Coach Davis can make the necessary adjustments. Email Coach Davis if you want to do this.

CITY Championship Meet

Metea Valley High School (1801 N. Eola Rd, Aurora, IL)

Friday, July 26th, and Saturday, July 27th

Friday evening is the older kids (15-18).

For Fri night of City, swimmers arrive by 5:00 PM, National Anthem at 6:15 PM, actual meet runs 6:15-8:30 PM.

Saturday is all other City kids.

Declare your swimmer(s) for City by Friday, July 19th

Parents declare for the meet, but do not pick events.

PARENT VOLUNTEER SHIFTS

Parents will need to work a volunteer shift.

During Classic, the parent volunteer shifts will be divided into 2 shifts, so during the afternoon session that lasts about 4-5 hours, each volunteer shift will be about 2 or 2.5 hours.

After we get closer to the meet, and everyone declares, Heather Schwarz will assign people to their volunteer shifts.

T-SHIRTS

T-shirts are available to purchase at the meets.

Cost is approximately $15.

All teams listed on back of t-shirt.

If you want a t-shirt, I recommend buying early, because they might run out of certain sizes.

BAG TAGS

All swimmers participating in Classic and City will receive a special bag tag.  These bag tags will be given to swimmers at the end-of-year awards banquet along with other ribbons and awards.  This will be Sunday, July 28th.

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING FINES FOR NO-SHOWS

If you commit to a meet, but do NOT show up at CLASSIC and/or CITY, the swim conference charges a $100 fine for every event that a swimmer is not scratched from. Any incurred fines will go directly to the parents of that swimmer. (This is new this year.)  So, if you need to scratch your swimmer from a meet, it is very important that you email Coach Jeff Davis at  [email protected]  as soon as possible.  Coach Davis needs to know by the scratch meeting at the very latest, and this scratch meeting is at 6:00 AM on the day of the meet.

Again, make sure to communicate directly with Coach Davis via email.  (Please do not tell a friend to tell him.)

BULLPEN

There will be a Bullpen for EVERY SWIMMER at both Classic and City (except for the 15-18s on Friday night).  All swimmers MUST report to the Bullpen before each event.  If swimmers do not do this, they will be scratched from the event, and their parents will be fined.

FRIDAY, JULY 26TH

This evening is very fun! Please come to watch and cheer on our high school swimmers (including our coaches) as they show us how it’s done!

You can wear whatever you want, but it’s always fun seeing everyone in lots of yellow and black to show our team spirit!

OTHER GENERAL NOTES

Upon arrival and in between events, swimmers will sit together in our team area in the gym.

Swimmers are NOT allowed to hang out in bleachers (too hot & crowded).

At City, the locker rooms are closed all day on Saturday, so all changing of clothes will be done in the regular bathrooms.

NO food or drinks, except water, in the gym! There will be a concessions area at both Classic and City.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE

Practice times will remain as normal up until Classic.

After Classic, only City swimmers will need to come to practice, and we will follow the adjusted practice schedule for July 22-26:

8:00-9:00 AM for 11 & ups

9:00-10:00 AM for 10 & under

HEAT SHEETS

For both Classic and City, Heat Sheets are NOT available at the meet.

Heat sheets will be sent out a day or two before, and people can print these out at home to bring with them to the meet.
