First Week of Practice
Lightning Families,
Today marks one week before our first day of practice! The coaching staff is beyond excited to get started, and it looks like we will have some good weather to get us going.
Just as a reminder, we will start the season with evening practices from 05/24 - 06/01, with no practice on Mon, 05/30 due to the Memorial Day Holiday. The schedule for these dates will be:
- 6 & unders: 5:00 - 5:30PM
- 7-8s: 5:30 - 6:00PM
- 9-10s: 6:00 - 6:45PM
- 11-12s: 6:45 - 7:30PM
Before we start, I have some important things of note regarding tryouts, practice, and the Time Trial on 06/11.
Tryouts:
For any NEW SWIMMER on TGL, we will run evaluations from 4:00 - 5:00PM on Tues, 05/24, and Wed, 05/25.
- As said in the parent meeting, the criteria for swimmers to “make it” is to show comfort in and around the water
- Swimmers 7-10yrs old will need to be able to swim a 25 Fr (one-length) with or without assistance
- Swimmers 11 and Up will need to be able to swim a 50 Fr
- This should not be a stressful experience, we just want to ensure everyone is safeI have listed a schedule for Tryouts below.
- Please be there 10 minutes before your time slot to keep the process moving smoothly.
- Once your swimmer has “PASSED” they are welcome to attend that day’s practice and onward. As such, new 8 & under swimmers will start their season Wed, 05/25.
Practices:
The first week will be especially chaotic. To prevent overcrowding on deck, please show up no sooner than 10 mins before practice. Note that your swimmer's age as of 05/31 is where he/she will swim the entire season for both practices and swim meets. Regarding gear:
- Please bring goggles for practice - especially as the sun gets ‘brighter’ the chlorine and light makes it difficult to swim
- If your swimmer has longer hair, please consider wearing a swim cap. Longer hair can be very difficult to swim with and often blinding for the swimmers
- Swim shirts/Rash guards are generally discouraged; they cause drag in the water resulting in the swimmer having a hard time staying afloat. It is a safety hazard, especially for our younger swimmers.
Tall Grass Time Trial:
An email was automatically sent out earlier today regarding our Time Trial on Sat, 06/11. Though it said the registration deadline is 05/24, it has been changed to 06/09. This time trial is an intrasquad meet to get preliminary times for our swimmers. Like any other meet, it is not-required but highly encouraged that everyone participates!
- To register, press “MEET & JOB SIGNUP” under “Events” on the TG Website. Then, hit “Edit Commitment”, click on your swimmer(s) name, and you will be able to Commit/Uncommit from the Time Trial
- It is always easier to commit and then email me if something comes up. Once the deadline has passed, it is difficult to commit a swimmer into competition.
Apologies for the long email, but hopefully this helps clear any confusion about our first week of practice! As always, please reach out to me if you have any questions.
Go Lightning!
