Many of your questions may be answered by looking through our Parent Handbook (found HERE), but we've listed a few of the most common questions below to help you out!  You can always email us at [email protected]  if you don't see an answer to your question.

Q. When does registration open?

A. Registration typically opens mid-April and can be accessed HERE. All spots are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Q. Is there flexibility with days/times/frequency of practice?

A. Yes!! There is flexibility with the practices and meets. Attend the practices and meets that you are able to attend/want to attend. There is no requirement on attendance for practices or meets. However, if your kiddos want to swim in our Championship meet (Champs), they must swim in a minimum of 2 meets.

Our practice schedule will be shown on our Google calendar HERE

Q. If we are going to miss a few meets, is that okay? Or are we required to attend all?

A. It is ok to miss meets! There is no requirement to attend all meets, but remember that to participate in the Championship meet, each swimmer must swim in a minimum of 2 meets (not including the mock meet).

Q. When can we do a swim assessment?

A. We plan to do swim assessments as soon as the water/air temps cooperate, and sometimes the start of the season can be tricky. All dates/times will be posted on our website here, and once those dates have passed, we can do a quick assessment before practices around 7pm. Email [email protected]  if you are unable to make one of the assessment dates.

Q. Does my swimmer need to be assessed?

A.  Below are a few helps for you to determine:
  • Has your swimmer participated with a swim team before (either another summer league team or the Gators team)? If so -  YOUR SWIMMER DOES NOT NEED TO DO A SWIM TEST.
  • Has your swimmer participated in a clinic with Coach Carla in the last year or been a part of the Sentara Swordfish? If so -  YOUR SWIMMER DOES NOT NEED TO DO A SWIM TEST.
  • Is your swimmer balancing between the two groups (participated last season with Jr Bafracudas and potentially ready to move up)? If so - YOUR SWIMMER MIGHT BENEFIT FROM THE SWIM TEST.
  • Is your swimmer FIRMLY in the JR Barracuda category (cannot touch the bottom of the first lane at 4ft and cannot swim even 1/4 of the way across the pool, but puts his/her face in the water)?   If so -  YOUR SWIMMER DOES NOT NEED TO DO A SWIM TEST. You should plan to attend Jr Barracuda practices and send an email to [email protected] so we can highlight your swimmer on our list.

Jr Barracudas

Q. Do Junior Barracudas participate in meets? Or just practice until they can swim the entire length?

A. Jr Barracudas do not swim in meets. They will move to the Barracuda Team when they are able to swim the length of the pool - unassisted. At Home meets, we do let the Jrs "swim" across the shallow end of the pool - before the meet begins and give ribbons for participation, but they do not need to register for meets - they may just show up for the Jr swim and stay to watch if they would like!
