COACHES’ UPDATE:
Dear WCSC Families,
This week and next week we are literally flipping things around and focusing on backstroke! Our swimmers will be learning and improving this stroke and we will build both skill and confidence on our backs.
Here is what our main focuses are in backstroke:
•Body Position- swimmers should keep their hips high and head relaxed
•Kicking- strong flutter kicks come from the hips and not the knees
•Arms- long, straight arm recovery with a strong catch under the water
•Breathing/Timing- staying relaxed and keeping a rhythm
How you can encourage your swimmer at home and before a race:
•practice “air backstroke” with arm movements brushing past their ear
•practicing flutter kicks with pointed toes with backs on the floor
•talking through the steps of proper backstroke with a strong start and finish
We saw great effort these past two weeks with freestyle and are excited to hop into backstroke!

Wednesday, April 16th: Last day to order (OPTIONAL) personalized WCSC Silicone caps. There will not be an opportunity to order these later in the season.
Wednesday April 16th: Last day to order team suits from Walnut Creek Swim Club Elsmore site to arrive before Time Trials on May 18th.
WCSC latex swim cap: If you haven’t received one for your swimmer, please contact us directly to schedule pick it up.

SOCIAL EVENTS:
Saturday, May 10th Parent Social 4:30-11:00- Grab a babysitter (Night Riders make excellent babysitters) and come on over to the Fairholm’s. We LOVE our swimmers, but this evening is for parents only.
Come get to know some team parents, play some cornhole, and connect! Bring an appetizer or dessert to share and we will have drinks and the rest!
Please include what you will bring in the SignUpGenius notes so we don’t end up with too many duplicates.

Sunday, May 18 Welcome Back Picnic- Please come to the Welcome Picnic at Larkey Park outside of the pool area immediately following Time Trials to kick off the 2025 swim season! There will be a food truck, or bring your own lunch, blanket and chairs to picnic in the park, and say hello to new and returning swimmers and families.

PARENT MEETING - WCSC BACK TO SWIM NIGHT:
Wednesday, April 16th at 6:30 pm - Join us at Buena Vista Elementary to go over important information for the upcoming swim season.
This is a mandatory meeting for new families (however, we will send out the slides if you absolutely can’t make it), but we invite all families to attend and get up-to-date information for this season.
Location - Buena Vista Elementary School (located at 2355 San Juan Ave) in the Multi-Purpose Room.
NEW FAMILIES:
