COACHES’ UPDATE:
What a fantastic first week we had of the 2025 season! Thank you, families, for bringing your swimmers prepared and on-time to their practices. We are still holding practices during the spring breaks of our swimmers’ different schools and districts. If your child is unable to make it to practice, we understand! Since we know that schedules vary, you don’t need to let the coaches know if your child will be missing practice. We do need you to make sure to sign out of meets if you can’t make them.
As a reminder, it would be a good idea for swimmers to carry a spare pair of goggles in their swim bag. Please don’t forget properly labeled fins as well. If your child hasn’t received their free WCSC latex cap, please find Anthea Yugawa at practice from 4:45-5:15 this week or email [email protected].
We are continuing with a focus on freestyle this week, with practices emphasizing key freestyle drills that help enhance stroke efficiency, breathing patterns, and speed. In upcoming weeks we will focus on breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly, and Individual Medley (for 7&Ups) all while reviewing the strokes previously practiced. You will also see us often working on starts, open turns, flip turns, and strong finishes.
As always, if you have any questions I’m happy to answer them. Thank you and have an amazing week!
Coach Emily [email protected]
JOBS:
WCSC is a volunteer-run organization. We rely on parent volunteers to run all of the administrative aspects of the team and volunteer for roles needed to run meets. A swim team cannot function without the dedication and support of our team parents!
Parents/family are needed to time the races at a meet, record times, enter meet scores, label ribbons, work the snack bar, and officiate at meets. Most of the jobs are easy to learn and simple to perform while some require additional training like meet officiating which the team provides. Many of the jobs allow you a front row seat for your swimmer's races and all of the jobs provide a fun opportunity to be involved and get to know other swim team families and parents.
More information about job sign-ups will be available in upcoming newsletters, so please stay tuned. For questions, please email [email protected]. Kristian Lucas (Jobs Chair)
APPAREL:
Check out our Apparel update HERE from 3/24 for full info.
WCSC Latex Swim Caps: Pick up yours at practice this week. I’ll be at practice on Tuesday between 4:30-5:30pm.

NEW FAMILIES:
Hello New Families! I am sure you have questions and are wondering what to expect throughout the year. We are going to host a WCSC Parent Meeting on Wednesday, April 16th from 6:30-7:30 pm. The meeting will be at Buena Vista Elementary School (located at 2355 San Juan Ave) in the Multi-Purpose Room. We will review important information to inform all families about what to expect this upcoming season.
You will be receiving a link to our Team Handbook soon. The Team Handbook will be your go-to during your first year. I am also happy to answer any questions that may come up now and throughout the season. Everyone is here to help and support each other. It truly is an incredible community of parents and swimmers.
Buddy Families: We will be pairing families who are interested in being a Buddy Family. Returning families and New families should click on this link to sign up to be partnered with a family to help throughout the season. We will pair families so that you have an instant contact to connect with, and ask questions whenever they come up. (This is NOT for buddy swimmers, that will come later from the Nightriders). I would recommend all new families sign up to be paired with a returning family. This can help you from the very beginning.
