Stamford American International School

Stamford American were delighted to see some hard work pay off over the weekend at ACSIS Middle School meet. The meet was hosted by Nexus International School and saw 15 different schools from all over Singapore take part.

In a team format, points were awarded for athletes finishing within the top 8 in their age group and a bonus point if they came first. Events included, 50m of each stroke, 100 & 200 Individual Medley and 100 & 200 freestyle. With an emphasis on the team aspect, relays were worth double points. Age groups at this level included 12yrs & under and 13-14yrs.

With a maximum of 40 swimmers on a team, 18 athletes and 7 relays scored for the team. There were 10 medals, 3 Gold, 1 Silver and 6 bronze from 5 different athletes and two relay teams.

“There was an impressive showing from all athletes.” said Aquatics Director Paul Dowey. “We had 53 Personal Bests from 71 swims, 74.6% PBs is a great rate of improvement for our athletes.”

“It’s great to see the swimmers come and race together. The team spirit was awesome.” said Coach Liane Marice-Marquez

Coach Grace Vertigans was also on poolside over the weekend. “With ACSIS Juniors & SEASAC Juniors just around the corner we are really excited to see if our younger swimmers can top that.”

The team finished 4th overall with the girls claiming 3rd place and the boys collecting 5th place.

There is a busy calendar ahead for the Stamford Lions Swim Team starting in the new year. With a flurry of events for them to get involved in there will be opportunity to identify swimmers early ahead of SEASAC and ACSIS meets scheduled in May.
