Stamford Lions School Champs Rain and Gain

Stamford American International School

It rained most of the weekend but Stamford Lions Swim Team were not afraid of getting wet! There were 102 swimmers entered in the Championship which took place at Lincoln pool on Friday 13th & Saturday 14th December. Official results were displayed for the first time using “Meet Mobile”, a welcome addition to our competition setup.

The goal of the meet was to provide adequate opportunity for our younger swimmers to race and set bench marks prior to the Christmas holiday. For our more experienced members it was an opportunity to race on strokes and distances they might not consider their best events. There were many personal bests all round, with numerous swimmers attempting strokes and distances for the first time.

The awards were based around the “IM Ready” and “IM Extreme” points system from used regularly in USA Swimming. The purpose is to allow comparisons amongst age groups, genders and events. Combing all the points gave a cumulative score. At Stamford American our squads are split into Development and Performance pathways. The swimmers on the performance pathway were encouraged to swim all of the 200m events by their coaches, whilst the development pathway focused on 100m events.

IM Ready points at this meet were calculated for all swimmers on the Development pathway and included:

  • 10yrs & under 100 Free, 50 Back, 50 Breast, 50 Fly
  • 11-12yrs 200 Free, 50 Back, 50 Breast, 50 Fly
  • 13-18yrs - 200 Free, 100 Back, 100 Breast, 100 Fly, 200 IM

IM Extreme points at this meet were calculated for all swimmers on the Performance pathway and included:

  • 10yrs & Under 200 Free, 100 Back, 100 Breast, 100 Fly, 200 IM
  • 11-12yrs old - 100 Back, 100 Breast, 100 Fly, 200 IM
  • 13-18yrs - 200 Back, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, 200 IM

Our new Team Unify platform was used for entry purposes and gave opportunity for coaches and swimmers to determine their entries together.
