Niels Competes at Olympic Qualifier Invitational
Niels did Stamford proud at Singapore’s first swim meet under COVID restrictions, also a qualifying meet for Olympic Games.
He touched in 26.25 for the first 50m and came back in 27.56 to finish in a time of 53.81, just 0.3 outside the previous school record.
Whilst there are still recognisable improvements that would see him dip under his lifetime PB, both the coaching team and Niels himself are happy with the result... for now.
“We have always said that you can’t be be out too fast but you can be out too hard.” said Aquatic Director, Paul Dowey. “A great swim considering the circumstances, new country, new pool, new coach, new school!”
“A few adjustments and I’m confident I would go even quicker, I’m happy with where I’m at right now and I’m excited about the next steps.” said Niels.
He finished in 53.81 a mere 0.5 outside of his lifetime best. Niels finished in 9th place, just 0.2 short of the final. He will now be ready to give the 200m freestyle on Saturday morning.
