SEASAC Senior Swimming 2022... Results - Something in the water...
SEASAC Senior Swimming this year took an unusual virtual format across South East Asia as schools all tried their best to work within the safe management cards that they had been dealt.
Lions Swim Academy, part of Stamford American International School, was able to compete in a dual meet format against the Australian International School over the weekend of 5th & 6th March 2022. Other Singapore schools were able to compete in their Singapore ‘hub’ whilst schools from Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia were able to complete their racing.
The 12 person team was largely selected from High School aged student-athletes with a few Middle School athletes able to make the jump to racing at this level. The girls team placed 6th overall, whilst the boys team placed 9th.
All the event results were combined to produce one set of results (a big thankyou to Tim Tripp from Bangkok) and then points were awarded for the various events, down to 10th place. Swimmers were only permitted to enter 4 individual events but the major highlight is the double points on offer for relays!
“This was the first year our team has been made up of largely High School aged athletes.” said Aquatics Director, Paul Dowey. “It’s great to see us moving in the right direction.”
Lead Coach Oneida Cooper is in her first year at Stamford. “It’s safe to say the Lions are back! she said. “We put up some great swims over the weekend with a number of personal bests times.”
She was right there, with 25 PBs from 34 swims (73.5% PB rate) and 9 out of the 10 relays beating their proposed entry times, there is clearly something in the water at Stamford. Coach Paul & Coach Oneida agreed
“It’s only the beginning.” as things begin to open up more in terms of regulation we will see more from our very own Lions Swim Academy.
