Junior Lions Roar at OCBC Age Group Competition

Stamford American International School

Singapore Swimming Association hosted the National Age Groups at OCBC Aquatic Centre at Kallang Wave, Stadium.  Stamford American’s Lions Swim Academy was there to be part of the action.

OCBC Aquatic Centre is Singapore’s world class indoor facility, boasting a 10 lane, 50m long course pool aswell as a 50m training pool. It is capable of hosting 3000+ seated spectators.

There were 8 lucky lion athletes that were inside the minimum entry time to represent Stamford American. These included Jaxene, Lara, Ezra, Lucas, Kurt, Nevan, Jasmine and Ksenia.

In a similar format from previous years, the meet had been expanded to our younger swimmers of 12yrs and below. Whilst minimum entry standards were required for this meet, swimmers can actually post times from 1st December 2021 until the 2nd May to be considered in the rankings list.

The event was the first-time around 300 spectators have been allowed to watch a meet at this level. However, the live stream and commentary were of an extremely high standard and made watching the replays of their races from home even more enjoyable.

There were 10 personal bests from 13 swims (76.9% PB rate), a great achievement considering these times were set just a 2 weeks previous! There were some big time drops from Lara, Jaxene and Ezra.  Highest place finisher was Kurt, placing 9th in the 50m breaststroke. A special mention is deserving of Ezra, who broke the existing school record for 10yrs & under in the 100m freestyle. You can watch his swim again here.
