Lions Swim Academy hosts Red & Blue Swim Meet

Lions Swim Academy hosted their “Red & Blue Swim Meet” on Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th April at Lincoln pool of the Woodleigh Campus.

The meet was split with Elementary aged students attending in the morning and Middle & High School students attending in the afternoon. The Canadian International school was also invited to bring a range of swimmers to race and enhance the racing opportunities.

A range of events were available and spread over the 2 days, 200m events for freestyle and individual medley (each stroke), 50 and 100m of each stroke including butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke & freestyle. There were 479 individual entries from 100 athletes across all sessions. Stamford American had 60 swimmers (31 girls, 29 boys) contributing 281 individual entries (148 girls, 133 boys).

Entries & SG Virtual Championships

The meet was officiated by Singapore Swimming to ensure the times could be legally added to their database and be part of their Virtual Age Group Championships. “Swimmers will be able to see how they compare against others from all over Singapore once all submissions are in.” said Lead Coach Oneida Cooper. But the coaches were keen to point out that “Success is a feeling, the first-time swims are as important as the record breaking ones.” said Aquatics Director Paul Dowey.

PBs & School records

Lions Swim Academy had 220 Personal Bests (PBs), a whopping 78.2% PB rate and 95 first time swims. The coaches were delighted with 7 swimmers setting 11 new school records (11 Single Age-Band & 4 Double Age-Band) over the weekend. Lions Swim Academy has records for both short course (25m) and long course (50m) pools. We also recognize records set for single age-groups and double age-band. “Double age-band means that they include 2 ages, for example, 11-12yrs. We will physically display double age-band records on our planned pool record boards at both pools for a little bit of inspiration.” said Aquatics Director Paul Dowey. You can view all records here.
