Lions Swim Academy compete at Virtual Junior SEASAC 2022
🦁 Lions Swim Academy 🦁, part of Stamford American International school, completed their Junior SEASAC meet over the weekend. The swimming competition was held at another local Cognita school, AIS (Australian International School) on Friday 6th May to Sunday 8th May.
It was a case of early starts, with the team arriving at 6:45am on Saturday and Sunday. With a lot of back-to-back racing, swimmers had very little recovery between their events. This is what they had trained for, but also something that was unfamiliar with the hiatus of competitions during Covid-19. It was a case of early starts, but early finishes.
The running theme to make each swim count, minimising DQs (disqualifications) and honouring our teammates with our efforts. Despite having to ‘race tough’ there were plenty of big PBs (personal bests). The team posted 59 PBS from 114 races across the 3 days, 51.7% PB rate. DQs were limited to just 7x.
Day 1 Highlights & Mentions
On day 1, Kurt bettered his 100 backstroke bettered his time by 27secs. Courtney in her 400 freestyle took an amazing 19secs off her previous best time. Ezra gave a good account of himself, the youngest swimmer attending dropping his 50m butterfly by 13secs.
Special day 1 mentions go to Kensie, who swam back to back races in the 200 IM and 50 breaststroke events, both with personal best times. Also Courtney swam strongly in her 400 freestyle to then be within a second of her best over 200m breaststroke, racing tough girls!!!
Day 2 Highlights & Mentions
On day 2, Lilli posted the biggest PB of the meet, dropping her 100m freestyle time by 37secs! Arjan also posted a great PB by nearly 6 secs in his 100m freestyle race. Courtney was in third place yet again dropping her already impressive freestyle time down to 1:04 with a 4 second personal best.
The highlight of day 2 was definitely the close relay race between AIS & SAIS in the 4x50 Medley, only a handful of strokes separated the teams and it was great to have some noise at the venue as they finished. Well done Latisha, Jialan, Hannah & Courtney.
Worthy of mention was Archie’s 100m freestyle. He was convincingly beneath the minute mark for the first time in 58.97.
Day 3 Highlights & Mentions
The highlights of Day 3 were again linked to the relay events. The return of Seth really bolstered the mixed freestyle relay team (13-14yrs) who were able to just pip AIS with outstanding swims from each team member. Seth posted a 28.34, Latisha 29.53, Courtney 28.79 and Archie 25.86 to finish on top. In the girls 13-14yrs 4x50 freestyle relay it was a similar story. Courtney 30.23, Hannah 32.73, Jiadai 35.22 and Latisha 28.89 to again pip a strong AIS team.
A worthy mention to Lucas who despite his goggles coming off in the first lap of 100m butterfly, he soldiered on as if it had never happened! A great example of the younger kids showing everyone else what to do.
