Lions Cub Championships pull out all the stops!

Stamford American International School

Lions Swim Academy pulled out all the stops for their final meet of the academic year. On Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th May, swimmers from Stamford American International school were blessed with beaming sunshine for their event held at Lincoln Pool.

This year, Lions Cub Championships took an interesting format. The longer events of 200m and 400m events were ‘heat declared winners’, meaning they only had to race once for a placing. In a change to last year, there were heats and finals for 50m and 100m events adding further to the atmosphere. Our student-athletes a second chance at racing and experiencing racing a heat and finals format. With a lot of back to back racing, the organisers had included three minutes after each heat for swimmers to recover.

A smaller number of swimmers this year meant that by mixing boys, girls and ages it would keep the racing close. A separate final for 12yrs & Under (Elementary) and 11-18yrs (Middle & High School) for the events already swum was on show in the afternoon after a well-earned lunch break and much fanfare!

68 individual athletes entered over 400 races. With the presence of officials from Singapore Swimming, the times could be included in rankings. There was a small price to pay in the form of 34 DQs, ensuring the rules were upheld to meet the event conditions. Nevertheless, our swimmers racked up a massive 269 improved times (67% Personal Best Rate). Relays were a fund addition this year.

Well done lions!
