ACSIS Middle School Swim Meet 2023

Stamford American International School

ACSIS Middle School was held at the German European School Singapore (GESS) on Saturday 7th February. Held in a long course pool (50m), this was the first meet GESS have hosted.

ACSIS stands for the Athletic Conference of Singapore International Schools and is an opportunity for international schools to pit their student-athlete talents against each other across a range of sports.

In a swimming context, students are racing for team points, with the top 8 swimmers scoring for their school. At middle school level, swimmers are selected and entered in a maximum 3 events from a range of events on offer. The age groups are 12yrs & under and 13yrs-14yrs, separated further into girls and boys.

The theme of the day was ‘to race with courage”. A number of swimmers had just returned from field trips, with little training and even less sleep. Yet they raced tough and gelled together as a team over the 8hrs on poolside. There were 42 PBs (personal bests) from 55 swims, 76.3% PB rate... well done team!

Coach Khidir looked after the girls and Coach Paul was on hand to help the boys. An internal battle ensued between the groups with swimmers earning coaches points for breaking their personal bests, winning their heat or minus points for disqualifications. It was the girls that came out on top!

Nils had the biggest personal best on record with a massive 27.2% improvement in his 50m freestyle. For the girls, Skye had the biggest improvement in her 50m breaststroke with a 21.9% improvement. In terms of performances, Ksenia was the top girl making USA AA Motivational standards for both 50m & 100m freestyle.

In the ACSIS Middle School Team points, the girls finished in a credible 5th place in the team points amongst the other Singapore International Schools. Our boys team favoured less well in 16th but some young swimmers gained some valuable experience. Many thanks to Yuki who acted as Team Manager.
