Stamford American at February Proficiency Awards

Stamford American International School

Stamford American were in action at the Singapore Proficiency Awards on 24th & 25th February at Tampines Hub Swimming Complex. It was the first time this meet had been swum at this particular venue, and a novel one at that. The 50m olympic size swimming pool is located 6 stories up and with a 4m deep multipurpose pool, certainly was an interesting proposition for our swimmers.

This was one of the few meets where our swimmers compete in long course 50m pool events and our young lions did not disappoint. There were 22 swimmers that entered 121 races over the marathon weekend. A whopping 112  of those swims (92.56%) were personal bests! Biggest improvement from the boys came from James in his 50m butterfly (25.77%) whilst Aston was also hot on his heels. Sister Alicia collected the next biggest results in her 50m breaststroke and 50 butterfly.

Also worthy of note, there were 7 swimmers who set new Motivational Standard time cuts in 22 different events. Those swimmers included Ezra, Zoe, Mayya, Aston, Nevan, James and Kim.

There were 3 swimmers that broke school records. Ezra managed to break both the 800m Freestyle and 200 backstroke records in the 11-12yrs category. Zoe secured her spot on the record board with her effort in the 800m freestyle for 11-12yrs old. Kim also set a new record in the 13-14yrs age bracket in his 200m backstroke.
