HEAD COACH - Scott O'Reilly
Email: [email protected]
After a very pedestrian swimming career, Coach Scott began his coaching career in the summer of 1994 at Germantown Country Club. After establishing his first “empire” there, he began his USA Swimming career at Memphis Tiger Swimming in 1999, first as an Age Group Assistant, then as the Head Age Group Coach, under Dave Smith. Scott’s coaching positions have taken him to College Station, TX, where he worked with the nationally-ranked women’s varsity team under the legendary Steve Bultman, Northern Kentucky and Northern Virginia, with stops in Memphis in-between. While he has been a swim coach his entire professional career, Scott also spent 7 years teaching high school religion and philosophy at Christian Brothers High School and St. George’s Independent School in Memphis. Scott is happy to be settled in Memphis with his wife, Carleen, and sons, Linus and James. In his free time, Scott enjoys running and watching Notre Dame football. Coach Scott’s coaching philosophy has always been focused on long-term swimmer development with particular emphasis on stroke efficiency and kicking strength. He challenges all of his swimmers to take responsibility for their own swimming careers and be goal oriented. Every lap that is swum in practice has a purpose. The swimmers who realize the most success in Coach Scott’s program are those able to think their way through practice and races and give the highest commitment to their training. Career
