I’m extremely heart-broken to deliver some very sad news to you tonight. A loved, appreciated and valuable member of the swim officiating community in our state is no longer with us. Florida Gold Coast Official Mike Fish passed away today after succumbing to injuries sustained when he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle in South Florida. As per the Steering Committee’s April 2011 decision, the 2011 AT&T Short Course National Championships to be held December 1-3 in Atlanta, GA will now be a Long Course competition to allow participants an opportunity to achieve Olympic Trials qualifying standards. The November Grand Prix Series event in Minneapolis will also be a Long Course competition in 2011. December Juniors will remain short course. USA Swimming Events page

The Florida Swimming Office will have reduced hours (8:30 AM to 1 PM) on May 17 and 18, 2011. The office will be closed on May 30, 2011.

Dear Florida Swimming Clubs and Coaches, There is a revision to the list of candidates for the 2011 Southern Zone Age Group Championship Meet in Cary, NC July 26th - 31st. Only the 13-14 girls list has been revised. The revision is due to the change is eligibility rules established by the Southern Zone. The upper eligibility limit of achieving a 2009 U.S. Open time standard is only for the 15-18 age group. Therefore, any 11-12 and 13-14 swimmers are not affected by the rule. I apologize...

Florida Swimming will present two $1,000.00 awards to one male and one female Florida Swimming/USA Swimming athlete member, in 2011. If you know of a student/athlete member you believe deserves and meets the criteria please have them fill out the enclosed form and return it by Monday, July 11, 2011. GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Local teen Jaide Childs is swimming her way to Mexico – the 2011 Parapan American Games in Guadalajara to be exact.
